T410s SSD Replacement

#1 Post by RRHODY » Tue Sep 30, 2014 4:08 pm

Need another SSD for a T410s but haven't a clue what to look for or what to lookout for. Any steerage would be appreciated.

Most anything, within the capacity that you require, from a major brand is good. Prices have been dropping on nearly all SSDs which is good. Best thing to do is pick one that is on sale then do a quick Google search for any major alarm bells. AFAIK, there's nothing like the early Sandforce 11XX or 22XX controlled drives that randomly would cause a system crash. I have never forgave Sandforce for allowing, us the consumer, the priviledge of paying to test their faulty hardware for them. So for me, I avoid all Sandforce drives and Corsair too for their part in this.

Not quite.

T410s takes 1.8" drives, and not the standard 2.5" units.

Therefore, the choices are limited. And expensive. Stock drives in these were mostly Intel X-18 units which are getting a bit long in the tooth. Another option is to use an mSATA to 1.8" adapter with an mSATA drive. Here's a list of known and likely available 1.8" drives:

Crucial C300 1.8" (64GB, 128GB & 256GB)
Crucial C400 1.8" (64GB, 128GB, 256GB & 512GB)
Intel 320 1.8" (80GB, 160GB & 300GB)
Intel DC S3500 (80GB, 240GB, 400GB, 800GB)
Intel DC S3700 (200GB, 400GB)
Intel X18-M G1 & G2 (80GB & 160GB)[/b]
Kingston SSDNow KC380 (60GB, 120GB)
Kingston SSDNow V+ 180 (64GB, 128GB, 256GB)
OCZ Vertex 2 1,8" (40GB, 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB & 240GB)
OWC Aura Pro (240GB, 480GB)
OCZ Deneva 2 C 1.8" (80GB, 180GB, 360GB)
Micron C400v 1.8" (64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB)
Micron P400e 1.8" (50GB, 100GB, 200GB, 400GB)

Transcend SSD18S (16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB)
IBM SG9XCS1F (50GB, 200GB)
Mushkin Chronos Go Deluxe 1.8" (60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB, 240GB, 480GB)
Toshiba THNS128GG4BAAA (128GB)
KingSpec SSD mSPK-SF12 (4GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB)
Mach Xtreme Technology MXSSD2MMSK (16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB)
Super Talent Master Drive KX3 (32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB)

I've bolded my preferred choices.

Happy shopping.
