T400 wireless not working

The answer to this may be: a )that a Windows 7 problem, or b) "You can't do that anyway, fool."
I have a T400 available, using it as a backup for my T61p which just failed. Instead of copying a ton of files over, I tried the expedient of just plugging my T61p's ssd into the T400. Voila, everything works great and it reconfigured the odd items, but I have no wireless capability.
The router is broadcasting ID (I checked), and if I swap the T400's ssd back in, it connects automatically to the wireless network as it should/did before. But with the desired T61p ssd installed, it won't even see or give me an option of connecting to the wireless network. The front exterior radio switch is on, under device manager nothing looks amiss, but I see only "intel 82567LM" as a network adapter, shouldn't I see the (I think) 5300 card there, too?
I'm hoping to use this 400 as a back up until I can repair or replace the T61p. Looks like a go except the wireless hiccup.
Edit: Ok, I think I may have a clue now. My dad said it's likely the BIOS not recognizing the 400's card. Mine has the Middleton BIOS upgrade, which I thought would let me see that card, etc., but clearly there's things here I don't understand.
