T420 will not start

#1 Post by tomjrc » Sun Jan 11, 2015 11:25 am

Well here I go again! last night I went to the weather app. on the start screen and then shut down for the night. Closing down and disconnecting the AC plug. this morning I plugged it back in and pushed the power button. To my amazement, the weather page appeared with the same stats as some 10 hours before.I tried starting it again and pushing the blue button. This text came up: your PC did not start correctly.restart or go to advanced options.i first tried Restart,it went to the prior message. I then went to Advanced options and 3 options were available .I tried all 3 to no avail. The computer went to Preparing Auto Repair, Diagnozing, then reset PC. Only option then was Insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue. Needless to say I have no disks. thank goodness I hung on to my T60. Any help out there?

when I purchased this unit the seller said when he bought it there was no H.D. so he bought an ssd and loaded Win8.1 I asked for the COA but he has not responded. On the bottom under the battery there is a Windows 7pro OA sticker with product key. Will this help me?I really don,t care if I have to go back to win 7

Download the W7 version (Home, Pro, Ultimate) that is appropriate/matching your COA, install the OS and call it a day. In the worst case scenario you'll have to call MS and activate OS over the phone.

As for W8.x - that's a no-go without a license.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to call Microsoft in order to activate your Windows 7, at least that happened to me when I installed the OS using my retail disks and my T430's OEM license. Took me five minutes or so, on the phone, no problem whatsoever.

Just get W7Pro (pay attention to 32/64 bit, the key is not tied to a particular version, apart from Pro) and use you "under battery" key to activate.

Do you have a USB flash memory stick 4GB or larger? You can use the Windows 7 USB DVD download tool to "burn" your .ISO image to a flash drive. This way, if there are errors in the .iso image, you don't waste more DVDs.

Well I finally was able to download the iso file to my usb But now it says it is not bootable. I have to go to My M.S. store and to additional download options (the site says I have not bought any thing since 2012 and there is NO additional download options available .i was to to go to drop down menu Select 32-bitiso (can,t find it) right click and save bootsect.exe file to location of usbdownload tool. then go back to usb tool. I,m still trying to find the file
