T410 Integrated Intel HD Graphic Driver Crashes *PIC

#1 Post by nikki605 » Tue Jan 27, 2015 10:44 am

For the past 6-9 months, the video driver in my T410 has been randomly crashing. It typically crashes while watching videos, like on YouTube. Since I don't watch many YouTube videos, the laptop may run weeks of months without a crash, but when it does crash, the only thing I can do is press & hold the power button to force it to power off.

I am running Win7 x64.

Full & detailed system specs can be found here  http://speccy.piriform.com/results/cKiF ... 2YlE2TKeJF

The most recent crash was this past Sunday and was different in that it happened when I clicked on a link which should have opened in a new IE tab.

This error was recorded in the Event Viewer - System:

Log Name: System

So far, these are the steps I have tried to correct the problem, without success:

1. Uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash Player.
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo Intel HD Graphics Driver:
- Driver file 6hd644ww.exe
- Version 8.15.10.2622

The laptop is being used as more of a desktop - connected to a/c power, internet is cabled to my router (not wireless), connected to an external monitor. Previously, I was using an 18" acer monitor, but a few weeks ago I replaced it with a 22" acer monitor, so I don't think the problem is related to the external monitor. The crash has occurred on both monitors.

I'm looking for ideas of what else to try.

Thanks for any help. :)

Gary

I'd try with the latest driver from Intel, I see that driver from Lenovo is pretty old.

I have the Intel Driver Update Utility installed and when I run it, this is what it says about the graphics driver:

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

I realize that is a "catch all" statement, but after reading it, I am reluctant to install the generic Intel driver.

If someone has installed the generic Intel driver and it works without issue, I would be interested in knowing that.

You can ignore the warning. I have installed graphics drivers directly from intel and nvidia without any problems on my intel gpu T60, nvidia gpu T61, and W530 (installed non lenovo intel and nvidia drivers).

Also, uninstall the lenovo driver before installing the driver direct from intel.

Yes, I did it too on my T420s / Intel HD3000.

I went ahead & uninstalled the current Lenovo supplied graphics driver, rebooted, and then installed the latest version from Intel: 15.22.58.64.2993 (8.15.10.2993).

There was no problem installing the Intel driver.

Since the crash occurs so infrequently, I will just have to use the laptop and see what happens.

The Intel Driver Update Utility listed 2 other drivers that needed updating, but I did not want to update anything else right now until I know that the video problem is resolved. Note that the Wireless Driver installed version is higher than the latest version. :?
