T500 - RAM upgrade resulting in many Beeps on boot

Hey Folks,

I purchased a 4GB sodimm DDR3, to replace a 2GB stick. However I was not able to boot with the new stick, resulting in lots of beeps pre-post. I tried re-seating the ram, just in case. So for whatever reason it's gotta be incompatible, apparently it came from a Dell.

I've posted an image of the two sticks, new one on the top. Wondering if anyone could point to an obvious problem with the specs listed in the labels. PC3 vs PC3L make a difference? The speeds are different, but I thought 12800 should be ok. Or do both sticks of ram need to be matched? Right now I have a 4GB and a 2GB, I don't believe they need to be matched at least size wise.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the Forum.
The upper module (4GB PC3L-12000) is [L=low voltage] and too fast for the T500.
Keep for a newer laptop, or exchange for a PC3-8500 or PC3-10600 (non-L).
The 2GB is OK.

Dang, I guess after decades of somehow always buying the proper memory, I got cocky. Back to eBay. Thanks for the info...
