Okay, so far 2/5 people have reported severe flickering(s). So I'll not proceed with selling T420 non-s kits until there's a bug fix.
Also, Me and Javi-Jie have negotiated and now T420s/T430s "slim" kits are for sale for as long as this batch are available.

And ofc, transactions outside feebay is much cheaper

I have my order in for a kit - anyone recommend a screen vendor?
I'd really really like it to be Matte, but that seems hard to pin down. Do "S" models need a thinner LCD or anything? I recall that was the case for other "S" models in the past. (X61s perhaps?)
Here's a few I'm looking at:
Pricey, but says Matte:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-IPS-1080p-LC ... 4aef79728a
Here's a US one, but not Matte(?):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-B140HAN01-1 ... 53fbb16ba3
Also US:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/B140HAN01-1-LED ... 2ebddbd142
The US Vendors don't SAY they are those models, just compatible with them.... Anyone?

I asked both vendors in your second and third links and they both said they've generally got both matte and glossy panels in stock and to specify in your order which one you want. I bought from the second vendor and received an exact part (using it right now).

D@rn! Just got me a cheap T420 with broken screen to mod it.. I guess I'd need to exercise more patience then
But first things first: mod the T420s - I'm just waiting for the screens to arrive (hopefully still this week)

They responded in kind to my inquiry (confirm the details) before I bought my screen and it showed up exactly like I intended.

I also bought a B140HAN01.1 from this seller. They sent an actual B140HAN01.1.

Awesome news. Don't want to get stuck with an LG panel if I can help it!
Edit: I also contacted Seller #2, they responded in minutes, and said it was AUO and not LG, and was Matte, not Glossy.
I then ordered in minutes.

It seems like I won't be able to get my kit, as I need a non-s kit for a T420. Wonder if the B140HAN01.1 panels are some sort of rare bird, so that I should go ahead and buy one, or if this is a mainstream panel that will still be available even in 6 months. It would be a shame if no panel is available at the time a remanufactured kit comes out. On the other hand, I just bought a car, so I won't spend extra money now unless I really need to.

Is there a difference in PCB or in Harness between the -s and non-s version? (Particularly t420 in my case).

From what I've read, the T420 laptops are having issues with the board, but the 420s and 430s are fine and available on ebay. Are the boards stable with the T430? I just bought a T430 and this 768 screen is killing me. I'll buy a 1600x900 screen if I have to, but I'd rather not buy one screen now and another later. So is there any way of getting a T430 board? Or are they as unstable as the T420?
Thanks guys.

To clear things up, there is no difference between the T420 non-s and T430 non-s when it comes to the LCD converter board. So whatever's going on, it will be the same. Sorry.
I have this mod installed on a non-s T420. I guess I got lucky, because I only get sudden corruption flashes every 15 minutes or so.
Since I usually don't notice the flash, I'm totally OK with it, but other people have had more severe instability on the order of a few minutes. The reason is because of
one bad batch of PCBs from a subpar manufacturer, so hopefully the next batch will be better.
If you are impatient, you can beg or pay extra to RMSMajestic for a non-s board that has only minor issues, rather than seizure inducing flashing. But I think the reason why he decided to wait for a fixed batch is because he would have to test each one manually to gauge it's severity.

WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT
I have a T420. Actually I have two T420 laptops, one is a brand new spare. So if push comes to shove and I break one while swapping the LCD I'm still good
I knew this will happen, I saw DP-LVDS converter boards a few months ago and tried to organize someone to look into it. Didn't work out. Oh well. Count me in when the stable non-s kits arrive. I am good for two kits.

hi everyone! Very interresting thread!
I bought today a T430s and I am about to buy a kit for the screen replacement. This seller on ebay seems to have good feedback from members here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/361263185084?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
Could anyone who ordered from this seller make a feedback on the actual number of dead pixels on the screen he received? In the description, it is adviced 3 to 5 dead pixels...
Is there a noticeable difference between the AUO B140HAN01.1 and AUO B140HAN01.2?
Thanks for your feedbacks!

I haven't bought this screen from this seller (yet), but I have bought dozens of other screens from this seller in the past when I ran a laptop repair side business years ago. I used him exclusively for screens and never once had a bad pixel.

Thank you for the link. I only see a difference in weight (30g) between the 1.1 and 1.2 models. I supposed that one can't notice any difference between those 2 models.

Good to know. For the price I prefer to be carefull as I have to add 28$ for shipping + 19,65$ for import taxes to the 72$ of the screen ...
I also saw this seller:
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/121383463808?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT which is less expensive for France as it is located in the UK. They only have v1.1 available as the 1.2 version in only a compatible screen (LG). It seems to have good feedbacks from buyers too.
I think I will wait till I receive the kit from RMSMajestic before ordering the screen.

Q: Which screen do you recommend?
A: Personally, I'd recommend B140HAN01.2, B140HAN01.3, other screens are better used with color calibration.

I'm now (one more) happy owner of a FHD T420s, big thanks to RMSMajestic (and Javi-Jie) for organizing this!
I'm really happy with my ThinkPad, even when I'm not a fan of 16:9, I find FHD in 14" a good compromise and so far is the best we can get. I'm collecting now parts to assemble a second one

This time with Intel graphs instead of Optimus...

Thinkpad comes tomorrow, kit in couple of days and I oredered the B140HAN01.2 screen.
BTW Tasurinchi, my T420s supposedly will come with Swiss keyboard. If I will change it, would you be interested in buying it?

Well, count me as another satisfied customer! MPCook and are in the process of swapping machines, and I just got my ePacket from China today (my 1.1 panel was waiting patiently

). Since I was doing a bunch of T420s surgery today anyway, it was only natural to do the mod today, too.
Instructions were good, the parts are top-notch (this has to be one of the best hacks I've seen in a while!), and everything is pretty straight-forward. To my surprise, it all worked on the first try!
To those thinking about doing it, here's my advice:
1. Instructions don't say to, but I say take the LCD lid totally off. Much easier to install the screen and new cable that way
2. Really think about how you're going to route that new cable. My cable was probably 1" longer than ideal, so I had to give it a little S bend. Just be careful doing it.
3. Use the back tape he provides judiciously - it's strong stuff used well
4. Do a few power-tests when you're buttoning it back up. Scary, but if you're careful, not too dangerous to your machine. I connected a power lead and keyboard as soon as I had the LCD pathway connected and physically stable. I did another test after the Top Cover was on and the antenna wires routed. There's a few places where things can go wrong, cables can get disconnected, etc.
5. Take. Your. Time. The T420s is not Lenovo's finest design achievement - there are many different types of screws, places where screws are just for the motherboard, some that connect many layers of parts together, etc.
6. Take many pictures (see #5!). I didn't take enough and scratched my head a bunch on which screw went where (and WHEN!)
It's a shame it's such a low-level mod. Anyone seeing it will just see a computer with a nice screen (and Keyboard & Trackpoint

) and think nothing of it....

I fully agree with #1, it's much easier to work on the lid removing it completely.
I'm curious about how you routed the cable, I was also trying different options and I finally got it under the small frame railing like shown below:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kxYZ ... 210939.JPG
Where I don't agree is with #5, if you follow the HMM it's difficult to put a screw in the wrong place, the HMM even mentions the colour and size of each screw
Enjoy your newly modded T420s!

OK, I should have mentioned I don't follow the HMM like a tablet from on high.
Your routing is better than mine. I went higher up, and had to slope down and cross over the jumper ribbon cable. I thought it was causing interference (audio, maybe hard drive) but don't think so. My other t420s is just as buzzy with audio, and the drive stuff was because of dual booting win10/7 and fastboot.
If I have occasion to crack mine open again, I'll give the routing a shot like yours.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, I think the routing will depend on the cable length indeed...

I'm trying to obtain a panel for a T420s fhd mod, but running into trouble finding one. I thought I had one from an ebay item listed as an exact part number original of B140HAN01.2 , but the seller has since informed me that they have sent out a Chi Mei N140HGE-EAA which they assure me is an IPS panel (a bit of quick googling tells me otherwise. Don't know what they're playing at; not pleased at all

)
Anyone UK or EU based found a reliable source?
