I've finished testing 10/15 kits I have, and bizzaringly, all the kits tested so far work flawlessly and I have not had any flicker problem, so I'll start distributing kits tomorrow or maybe on Monday.
Testing was done for 3 hours web-browsing, 1080p youtube video and 1080p blue-ray LOTR
Meanwhile, Javi-Jie has reported today, that under refresh rate of 50Hz the flicker problem is more likely to happen. And there is a slightly higher chance for T420 to flicker than T430. But I doubt this makes any difference statistically, since there are less than 100 non-s kits floating around so far.
So, for the non-s kits please turn off "automatically reduce refresh rate after x min" in power manager, if that little extra power consumption matters to you, then probably you should be better looking for BGA converted to PGA i7-3517u.

Just saying, if the kits that is sent to you flickers, please report to me with your laptop type (T420/T430 & with dedicated graphics or not) and the precise information of your screen type, and I'll send you a replacement.
Have a nice weekend everyone~
yep, not trying to piss in your cheerios or anything. i just reached out to javi-jie to do it since hey, im in china already. and the 420s to me... well, i'd prefer a larger battery and was wanting a dedicated and the 420 was slightly cheaper than the 420s (difficult to find dedicated) on the market.
but. battery, eh i can cope. usb3 is worth more to me. and the 4200M isnt that much better than the hd3000. both are far better than my x1300.
t430s would be tempting due to ivy bridge, better graphics, 32gb ram support (albeit the keyboard is garbage). but, i'm not looking for another 5 year machine here. I'm looking for a 2~3 year machine that doesn't burn my legs.
