Any chance of using these kits on X220/X230?

Any chance of X220/X230 kits becoming available? :-D

I'm just curious if you found it necessary to remove the heat sink on an integrated graphics T420,
as per the instructions. I can't tell whether the model in the instructions has the integrated-only
or integrated+discrete heat sink.
It's not necessary, but I'd recommend you to remove the heatsink for the convenience of installation.
The type of heatsink doesn't matter at all

No, impossible.
On X220/X230, it's single channel LVDS, not enough for FHD or 2K
There are kits for X220/X230, sacrificing DP port

Is it possible to order one of these kits still? Would be looking into one for a T420. Integrated graphics, in case that matters. I have no screen yet, that has to come later. Generally I like the T420, except from it's 16:9 format, so I would like to have the chance to sometime in the future replace the horrible panel it came with.
Yes, there are still 10 kits left. Are you in USA now or in Norway?

Well, should you decide to import a few of these you will have at least one buyer.

Maybe.... But that kit requires quite some soldering and the seller refuse to sell the kit alone :/

I'm in Norway, so if you are fine with shipping here, I'm prepared to pay the extra shipping cost. If you don't want to ship here, I have adresses in the US you can ship it to, but that's a bit more hassle for me. Thanks in advance though, for whatever deal we work out. :)

Ofc I'm fine with the shipping cos I'm not paying for it lol XD
Only problem by far is the lack of feedbacks, as you know there were reported flickers, but I'll test the kit before posting.
I'll reserve a kit for you

Sounds good! We can exchange email/snailmailadresses and PayPal info on PM when you find the total.

I am also aware that this is a part made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, so I accept there is a slight risk involved. But if you could test it, at least we know it won't be DOA. And no worries if it takes a little time; I haven't started looking into getting a panel yet.

javi seems to have taken then entire series down now.
PCB板厂没有按照我的要求做
The PCB board factory didn't follow my spec
要全部重新开始
Will have to start again from scratch
前面的基本也就废了
They're basically all scrap
这个时间不好说
Not easy to say when (they'll be for sale again)

That includes the 4(2|3)0s.

I CAN report *slight* flicker in the T420s with FHD mod. During bootup and shutdown when the screen dims or brightens there is a slight flicker for a fraction of a second. That's it though.

Plays very nicely with Win10. ultrabay drive adapater came today, 16gb kit is coming tomorrow, planning on picking up an msata when the opportunity comes along.

That's a bit different from the information I've received.
Yes the problem is due to the PCB, but the problem is only on T420/T430 non-s. All the "slim" kits were produced in the previous batch and what you and me have received were produced a few months ago.
And the flickering he was referring to is like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmXKuObDZ4c
Or the pictures here:http://i1026.photobucket.com/albums/y32 ... 65gkxt.jpg and http://i1026.photobucket.com/albums/y32 ... qpirkc.jpg
Regarding your kind of flickers, I've only had simiar on my T30, when the battery is low, and on one of the non-s kits at low brightness, low battery and high CPU usage. Or maybe because I was attaching a 135W PSU to it instead of 65W

P.S. Don't buy RAM or SSD from taobao, be aware of the fakes. http://www.jd.com is a better option in China

was only reporting back what i heard from javi. i was originally planning on upgrading myself and then that just became too much of a hassle.

i'm buying from the crucial tmall store. jd is basically all 3rd-party suppliers and i don't trust em at all. amazon also not really trustable anymore.

Got mine installed today. Gorgeous screen!

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h30/t ... 0trefg.jpg

Only a single flicker when loading certain websites. Not very annoying since it happens as the screen refreshes. Tested at full brightness on battery. Not sure if it will do it on ac or at lower brightnesses.

I've received the T420 non-s kit and the corresponding AUO B140HAN01.2 screen and will be ready to test as soon as I get some free time (probably this weekend).

Any instructions that you could give me on how to install this? While it may seem initutive, it's not for most people, so I strive to make a complete step-by-step guide for every mod I come across.

Although I don't have the T420s kit, if someone could take pictures while they install it and dump some side notes I can pack it together into a nice installation guide.

Attached are images of the T420 non-s kit just FYI. http://imgur.com/EEYJiFJ,5WoaIiH

Did you go with a B140HAN01.2 panel? If so, would you mind providing a link to wherever you picked it up? Thanks.

This is the screen I bought. It is indeed a genuine AUO B140HAN01.2 in matte - not a substitute.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361263185084?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

The flickering is persistent on AC and on battery, regardless of brightness. I've observed it happening now while just browsing files/the web and folders in Explorer and while watching videos. At this point it's a single flicker that lasts for a fraction of a second; at worst there are a few second between flicker events. It seems like the faster the motion or the faster the screen content changes drastically, the more often it will flicker. It will flicker with the screen not changing though - just at a greater interval.

It's tolerable at this level as long as it doesn't get worse. It is distracting though. Will a different screen likely resolve this? Has there been any news regarding B140HAN01.1 or the LG variants?

Thanks for the link. Was hoping the flickering wouldn't be an issue since RMS said he tested most of them to be fine with a 1.2 panel.

I'm willing to give a 1.1 (or a 1.0) panel a shot if RMS confirms it won't be worse. I'll hold off ordering one until Sunday to see if anything happens.

Has anyone anywhere tested a kit with one of the LG panels?

Has there been any news regarding B140HAN01.1 or the LG variants?
I have procured a B140HAN01.1, and should get a chance to do the install sometime next week.
I'm also waiting for some other parts (an i7-2640m) which I thought that I would install
since I have to take the heat sink out, anyway.

Curiously, the B140HAN01.1 that I got is glossy, regardless of what Panel Look and the datasheet had to say about it,
but I'm just planning on putting an anti-glare screen protector on it. No big deal if it works.

What videos were you using? Have you tried to change the color depth/ refresh rate?

The flickering is persistent on AC and on battery, regardless of brightness.
I'm assuming from your signature that you're using a machine with nvidia graphics.

Just out of interest, are you using Optimus, or do you have the BIOS set to use
one of the graphics adapters without switching?

And, are you running W7 X64 or something else?

Yes - Optimus was enabled but at the time of my experience the nVidia chip was off. Yes, W7P64. The videos I tested included some YouTube streaming and an MKV of Harry Potter 7.

Have not adjusted color depth or refresh rate at this time - but I'll be doing so once I get my ducks in order this morning. Once I've tried a few combinations and have information to report back on I'll be doing so.

Yes, let us know how it turns out. I hope I can get a kit that doesn't flicker, but it's a chance I'm willing to take. The panels doesn't seem too expensive, so I might consider ordering a panel as suggested in the eBay link above, as soon as it is verified that I can have a kit.

Here is a video that shows typical frequency of the flicker during "normal" use. In the course of the 42 second video it flickered twice. It is much more frequent at 50Hz and also at 50/60Hz 16 bpp.

What I see in your video is not flickering, it's something else.

Flickering is when the illumination level varies quickly. Yours completely loses the image
for about a frame (twice in your video.) There is some variation in the illumination level
throughout your video, but that could be your camera.

I'm not trying to nit-pick, but just trying to make sure that we are talking about the same
phenomenon. Do you see rapid illumination changes, or is that just the camera
adjusting the illumination level?

If you have time, perhaps you could turn Optimus completely off? I'm not familiar with
your BIOS, but RMS was running a vanilla T420 with just integrated (HD3000) graphics.
By doing this, you would bring your machine closer to the configuration that RMS tested,
and we would be able to eliminate a variable.
