I think it depends on what your definition of "considerably" is...
As a previous poster pointed out...someone estimated IPS panel use 15% more power vs TN panels...
And having done the IPS screen mod on my T430s, yes - I have noticed a faster drain on my battery.
However, a few things about my scenario:
1. My T430s is a refurb which came with a used battery, so battery life probably wasn't the greatest (condition is good, too lazy to run the battery check on the # of cycles)
2. T430s battery doesn't have a large capacity to begin with given its slimmer form factor - so battery life was never a T430s strong suit
3. You can purchase a ultrabay battery (3cell) for the T430s to increase battery life (approx. $75 USD for an original Lenovo battery - perhaps cheaper if generic brand)
So far, I am pretty happy with the battery life of my T430s after the screen mod AND I have to say, IPS is waayyyyyyy better than the original TN 1600 x 900 panel. I would definitely sacrifice a less battery life for a better screen any day!
