t500 lcd replacement issues

Hello thinkpadders! So I got a t500 recently in really great shape but I wanted to switch out its 1280x800 screen for a 1680x1050 one. Unfortunately when I went to do the replacement I found out the replacement screens I ordered have the wrong backlight (!) -- the native screen (and inverter) are for led backlights, whereas the wsxga+ ones have ccfl lamps.

I'm trying to figure out how to rectify this.......Would it be possible to simply exchange the two lamps themselves somehow? (putting the led lamp into the wsxga+ replacement screen)? Or would it be better to change the led inverter to a ccfl one? I'm willing to forgo the benefits of led if it means I'll have the higher res screens.......

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

You also need a specific LCD-cable (44C5385) and inverter (41W1338 or 13R1015) for CCFL-screens.

Thanks RBS. So would you suggest trying the lamp swap instead? I've installed new ccfl lamps before so I don't mind trying this, just wanna make sure it's likely to actually work.

I'd strongly advise against that. Less chance of bungling...
Been there, done that, all failures except on a dozen or so (A31p/T43p) 15" IDTech UXGA.

Ok. Do any other readers have additional thoughts/suggestions? I'd really prefer not to have to buy more things (the ccfl cable + inverter), so if anyone else has a different opinion/experience with this type of backlight swapping, feel free to chime in!

You'll have a very difficult time locating someone - and not just on this forum - who has more experience when it comes to modding screens than RBS.

It's either getting a proper inverter LCD cable and inverter for your "new" panel, or staying with the lower resolution of the LED screen. There's no mix & match in this equation.

If I were you, I'd also verify that the lid for LED and CCFL versions is the same. Check the HMM.

Good luck.

Got it. Thanks guys. Looks like the parts won't set me back too badly on ebay so guess I'll go that route.......

Good luck, hope it works out for you. Those T400's are wonderful little computers.
