t9400 vs t9600
t9400 vs t9600
Hello, I bought another t500 from ebay. I got it for 80 bucks with free shipping. I recieved it today and boy its mint. I would swear a company bought it as an extra. Anyway here is the kicker. It has 2gb of ram and a battery that says it needs replacement or something. Anyway it has a t9600 cpu. My idea is to stick the t9600 in my other t500 and to put in 8gb of ram into that same laptop. I will take the 4gb from that one and put it in the laptop i just bought. Then probably sell the 2gb on ebay. I would stick the t9400 in the new t500. I was wondering how much of an upgrade a t9600 is. I do play a few games and was wondering if i might get a few fps bump. How is it for general internet use and movie watching. Also i do a little autocad. Will i notice a difference their? Sorry is this was a little confusing. Thanks guys.

Re: t9400 vs t9600
With only a 10.5% difference in clock speed, I doubt it.
I switched from an X61 T8100 to one with a T9300 (2.1 to 2.5GHz, a 19% increase). The only time I noticed a difference was when I played a 1080p H.264 Hi10P movie: on the T8100 there were occasional dropped frames, while the T9300 had smooth playback all the way. Hi10P needs 30-40% more computing power than regular H.264 at the same bitrate and resolution, so it's pretty heavy load at 1080p.

Re: t9400 vs t9600
There are 2 graphics versions of T500, Intel-integrated and ATI/AMD-discrete.
Supposedly the discrete one is better for movies, CAD etc.
In the versions with ATI/AMD, in the BIOS you can select which graphics option you want: integrated, discrete or switchable.
On battery, integrated is preferable.
CPU T9400 or T9600 makes no noticeable difference.
No need to swap them, but replacing their thermal paste now is highly recommended (ca. 5 years old by now...).

Long time T9400 and T9600 user (albeit in Dell laptops). There is no difference except perhaps in one or two specific C2D CPU torture tests where you might see a 1% gain on the 9600.
