I have a T420s running Windows 8.1, soon to be Windows 10 when it comes out at the end of July, but I am running with the defaults which are for a T61 according to the TPFanControl installer.

Are there better settings for the T420s? My use is Web/Flash with Firefox and sometimes Chrome, Office 2013, C++ development with Visual Studio and GCC, virtualisation with VMware Workstation and other general use (music, video, etc.)

I prefer a cooler system overall and more fan noise doesn't really bother me. So I usually set my fan settings to look like this:

Level=50 0
Level=55 1
Level=60 3
Level=65 7
Level=70 64
