Intel Centrino 6200 wifi card

#1 Post by Hans Gruber » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:40 am

What is the oldest T series thinkpad that supports the Intel Centrino 6200 wifi card? I have a half size one just to have in my inventory. I think the T410 series uses the half size 6200. Will it work in a T500?

I ask because I have another T61 coming, this one has a 15.6" screen with 1680x1050. I ordered a 4965AGN for that particular T61. I am pretty sure the 6200 will not work in a T61.

A 6200n will work fine in a T61 and T60. You just need a 1/2 size to full size adapter and a modified BIOS of course.

Thanks for the feedback, Cigarguy. I ordered a full size adapter to have on hand to keep in my workbench. I may test out the 6200 on the T61 with the Middleton bios.

You can make the half-size adapter with a pair of scissors and a piece of plastic.

Any piece of stiff material would work. It needs to be 7mm X 31mm.
Drill a 2.7mm hole (or 3mm) 27mm from one end.

Here's a crude example, made in 20 seconds from a bottle cap.
Four snips with scissors and one drill hole:

Old creditcards are useful here also.

It works perfectly on T61F with Middleton.
Better signal reception. Really good system upgrade.
Intel 6250 is a very good upgrade also for those who are willing to use WiMAX.

My T61 Frankenpad used a 6200 card before I updated to the even newer 7260 AC card.

I bought another 7260 AC card to replace the original 6200 in my T430s, but found out it can't be used in the less than 4 year old computer due to Lenovo whitelist...
