Adding a Fingerprint Scanner to a T510

#1 Post by MikalE » Mon Sep 14, 2015 10:25 pm

Can I add a fingerprint scanner to my T510 just by changing the keyboard bezel to a FRU that has one and loading the drivers?

Is there anything missing in the BIOS security features of a non fingerprint scanner T510 that I would have to be concerned with?

You simply need to add a new palmrest that includes the fingerprint reader. Everything else is already in the bios to activate it once the new palmrest is installed. You simply download the fingerprint reader software. The Lenovo System Update program from the Lenovo site is a good tool to have. It picks up the fingerprint reader software and downloads and installs it automatically.

The one I got off eBay to replace the one in my W500 had one installed and the old one did not. Never the less the Bios picked it right up.
I was using my laptop to show some pictures off my laptop connected via HDMI cable on the edge of the table. Darn cat walked across my keyboard and the whole works came crashing down on a concrete and tile floor.
