T500 processor upgrading advice/questions

#1 Post by Hans Gruber » Sat Sep 19, 2015 5:38 pm

I have one real high quality T500 and another T500 with all the right parts. The real high quality one has a 2.4ghz P8600 while the the other machine has a T9600 2.8ghz processor. I was going to swap out CPU's but because I already repasted and removed the T500 with the T9600. I think I will just buy a T9600 because of the lengthy process of taking apart the T500 to get at the CPU and GPU. (Compared to other Thinkpad models)

Is the the T9600 the defacto CPU to get in the $15 price range?

I'm using a P9600 in my T400. The fan is a little more active than it was on the p8600. The T9600 will run hotter and the fan will run more often.

I'd say "yes". My T500 has a T9400 and I'm happy with it to the point that I'm really not interested in upgrading it whatsoever.
