Picked up a decent T520

#1 Post by MikalE » Mon Sep 21, 2015 3:00 pm

I'm not raving about the benchmark of the i7 2620M processor in this machine, but it has the Nvidia NVS 4200M and the 1600x900 HD display. It also comes with 8 GB of RAM and a 7200 rpm 500 GB hard drive that is pre-loaded with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and Lenovo drivers. Still, it benches out better than my T500, T510, and E530.

Fingerprint scanner was a must and I could take or leave the web cam. It looks very lightly used and it's from a refurb company out of Georgia on e-Bay. 100% feedback in over 13K transactions so I'm not worried about the deal.

I pointed out an error in their listing, two actually. The description didn't match the computer photos, especially the spec sheet so I called them on it. The T520 was indeed an i7 machine but the text description was for an i5 machine. After I called them on the error instead of offering it to me at the original price, they jacked the cost up by $30 dollars. I got them to come down by $10 and bought it.

They have a second listing for another machine with the same error I pointed out to them as well.

I didn't do too badly for $350.

Vertex PC??

If so I just bought it's twin about two weeks ago. It's been a great machine so far.

Vertex really knows how to pack a shipping box.

Not to rain on your parade, but for that type of money I'd expect a FHD LCD. At the very least.

Hopefully you'll like the system.

Yes, same company. They must be triplets, because there is another identical machine still listed.

I thought it might be a little high, but there aren't many T520 machines with the i7. The nicer display would have been a bonus, but I'll make do.

I was in the same boat, except I needed it immediately.

I figure that $335-$350 for a super clean refurb i7 T520 (even a 1600 screen) was not too bad when most of the ones I saw on e-bay were i3's and i5's.

Then I got crazy and bought an i5 machine for $225, that was supposed to have a 1600 screen, turned out to be a 1330, but I'll make due with it as a backup. Hopefully I can find a 1600 or 1920 display to swap into one or the other.
