Currently T420 is outfitted with pair of 1Rx8 4GB modules for total of 8GB. In future plan is upgrade to 16GB, what is the requirements? I know this is 1333MHz, and 1.5V for sure; will I still have to order memory modules in 2Rx8 configuration or still can use 1Rx8?

Note to clarification this point on memory module layout; 1Rx8 is 8 chips total for each module, while 2Rx8 is 16 chips per module as well.

I'm using a pair of 4 GB modules, each 1600, but downgraded bios to 1.37. Maybe its too subjective but in my opinion its seems to boost a little bit, compared to a pair of 1333 ram. I tried 16 GB but noticed no benefits for myself.

now its 11-11-11-28 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) - CR1 Dual Channel 128 bit

DIMM1: Crucial CT51264BF160BJ.M8F 4 GB (1 rank, 8 banks)
DIMM2: Samsung M471B5273DH0-CK0 4 GB (2 ranks, 8 banks)
