COA on X220 how to proceed, if no HD

#1 Post by gychang » Sun Oct 04, 2015 8:51 pm

I plan to get a x220 from ebay, unfortunately no HD, but am told it has a win 7 Pro COA sticker in the battery compartment.

1. will I be able to legally install windows 7 pro?
2. am told I have to contact Lenovo for discs, is this true and what will be the expected cost?

thanks,

1) Yes, if you obtain a factory recovery disk set.
2) If you go through the factory you could obtain a set for free if the system is still under warranty. Otherwise, it's about $50 including shipping/taxes.

An alternative would be to post a WTB here in the Marketplace, detailing exactly what COA is on the system (i.e., 32 bit or 64 bit).

You could actually install W7 Pro from almost any media. The worst that could happen is that you'd have to place a call to Microsoft in order to activate the OS if the online activation won't take the key.

Yes, I've done it many times with a valid key. All you need is the .iso.
