Thinkpad T440s: Beeps & blank screen, failing to wake up from sleep

Hi everyone,
When I wake up my Thinkpad T440s from sleep by openning the lid, there are beeps and nothing else happens. The screen is all black but it looks pretty obvious something is going on behind the scenes (I hear the subtle noise when opening the lid). After a few minutes, there is a sound and then it is automatically shut down. If I don't wait and close the lid, then I hear the final sound after 1-2 minutes (which is a bit louder than the beeps at the beginning) and it is automatically shut down.
This sympton began to occur just after I installed the latest BIOS a few days ago. After the BIOS, I also installed the latest Thinkpad System Update Version 5.07.0013, but somehow for the first time it doesn't work properly (always stops in the middle of checking for updates with the error message "An error occured while downloading packages" on the screen, so this system update utility is entirely useless now). My OS is Windows 10 64-bit upgraded from Windows 8.1. I bought this new Thinkpad for several months now.
Other than these, there are no other problems that I know of.
Can you please help? I'm not really good at the technical things relating to the computer, so please give detailed instructions if possible.
Thank you so much
