Hi

I`ve got two laptops, that aren`t working. I want to test if the screens are, and my question is can I connect them to my T500 (screens both with inverters)? In T500 standard WXGA (don`t know if CCFL or LED, probably CCFL).

First one, from Acer Aspire 5672wlmi
AU Optronics B154EW04 V.2

- 15,4"
- 1280x800 px
- CCFL backlight
- 30 - pin connector
- glare

Second one, from Acer Aspire 7520g
Samsung LTN170WP-L02

- 17,1"
- WSXGA+
- 1680 x 1050 px
- CCFL backlight
- 30 - pin connector
- glare

I also was thinking about swapping T500 deafult screen to WUXGA from T61, I can buy whole set for good price. Is this set plug and play (screen and inverter)?

Before you even THINK about doing anything like that, get the Datasheets of all those LCDs involved, and compare their pinouts.
If they are not 100% identical, you will blow your motherboard!

I thought that connecting them too soon might not end well.
Do you have any idea what screen in T500 might be or should i take it apart to know?
Is there possibility to check what type of screen I have using OS?

EDIT: I have found that inside is Samsung LTN154X3-L02. Will search for datasheets in a moment.

All screens from the T61/R61 15.4" widescreen models will fit and work in a T500/R500

Couldn`t find data for 17" panel.
Also for t500, I have only found datasheet for LTN154X3-L01 not LTN154X3-L02, which is glare. So i assume (but not sure) that only difference is matte/glare.
I checked and both AUO and LTN15 has same pinout -> picture

You can never make such assumptions. For example, the Samsung LTN121XJ-L02 and LTN121XJ-L03 have different pinouts.

1. Find the datasheets for the T500 CCFL LCDs that are on this list: .

2. Look for the service manuals for those Acer laptops, then check its parts listings for LCD model numbers.
This will give you a short list of LCD models that are compatible with (in other words, have the same pinout as) the ones you have.
Find their datasheets, then compare their pinouts to the LCDs in #1.

Basically, this was how I found a compatible LCD for a client's Clevo laptop -- by inspecting laptop FRU lists to find possibly-compatible LCDs, then searching for their datasheets for confirmation.

You are definitely right. As my intention was only to test theese screens, it looks that many things can go wrong.
Is there possibility to check them in other way? I heard that I can plug just 3.3V to correct pins and screen should become white - is this possible?
I will search datasheets anyway.

To replace T500`s screen with T61`s WUXGA - can I change whole lid (panel, inverter, hinges, etc) or only change panels?

Only the LCDs themselves, the lids are different.

Ok, panel ordered. I`ll keep you informed on results.
Meanwhile I`ll search data for compatible panels so maybe I`ll be able to check smaller one while swapping LCD`s.

Ok, situation look`s like this - full success
I ordered t61p screen, and got - maybe unfortunately - Samsung`s LTN154U2-L05 panel.
Font on screen is so small, that I`m really considering getting glasses. For 30$ (full lid with extra hinges, in good condition, with shipping) that is bargain.

But I discovered a problem. I thought my hinges got loose over time. And in fact right one got. But discovered that on the left side, beetwen two screws holding hinge, my rollcage is cracked
Is there possibility to fit t61p rollcage to t500 (I know that`s only depends on cable, will it fit)?

No, the T61 cage will not fit in a T500.

And that Samsung LTN154U2-L05 is one of the worst screens on the market...

I didn`t know what I`m going to get. Viewing angles aren`t that bad compared to previous one. But whole screen is bright only when I`m looking directly on it. Small change and top or bottom is dimmer. Also grainy a bit, at first I thought is broken. Anyway, that is new experience to me. Maybe I`ll find something better in a future for a good price.

The very best screen you can get for a T61/T500/W500 is made by Sharp, either LQ154M1LW2A or LQ154M1LW02.
They come from a Dell, and you need to carefully cut off some clips from the LCD-edge, but the screen is superb!

There are couple of them to buy locally. From 22$ to 36$. I would have to sell this samsung panel then, but this may not be too easy.
