ThinkPad T410s - repair question

Greetings from a newbie!

I have a Thinkpad T410s that requires repair; the plastic shell encasing the screen has come apart at the hinge. As it is out of warranty I wanted to inquire whether someone who has gone through a similar situation might be able to advise me of the cost of repair. (likely just the exterior black plastic shell around the screen.)

Thinkpad support numbers suggest they can only give a maximum estimate of $650 out of which they will deduct the relevant expenses before returning the machine to me. And understandably I would rather give the machine away and invest in a new one before spending this amount...

If you are happy with used parts, you can get those on eBay.
A lid-cover (back panel if you like) P/N 75Y5938 and an LCD-bezel P/N 45N3898 are the only 2 parts you need.
Together they are also sold under P/N 45M2653.
On eBay USA available around $40-50.
eBay UK probably more.

lolwut?

RBS beat me to it.

Buy the parts from e-bay.

You can download the hardware maintenance maunal from here:

Pretty easy swap.

If you don't fell comfy doing it, buy the parts and take it to your local PC repair shop. Whatever they charge you will be far cheaper than 650.
