T400 disobedient WAN card

I wonder if anyone has any idea why my WAN fires itself up any chance it gets? I don't see it in MSCONFIG. Lenovo access connections is the only option I have been able to use to even shut it down temporarily but as soon as I restart or wake my notebook, there it is again. The kicker is, even when I go into my device manager and disable the driver, the "active" indicator light is shining bright. Is there a way to disable it permanently until I want it on again by choice aside from removing it entirely from the computer?

Also, if for some reason the only option is removing it, what's the next coolest device (if any) that my system will recognize if installed in that slot? GPS? Something else?

The WAN card in question is the Verizon/Qualcomm WAN card that came with my Lenovo T400 2767-13U notebook.

Thanks in advance

Wow, 179 views and nobody has any idea why my WAN card comes on automatically even though I repeatedly shut it off manually and don't see anything in MSCONFIG that looks like it would auto start my WAN card?

I think because it doesnt bother anyone but you. I have two T400s both with the F3507g and all I can see is that it fires up the WWAN icon on the status panel and then thats it.

I believe it doesnt work in any case on anything unless it has a sim card in it. I dont think these actually are 3g so they are useless in my area where they are transitioning from 3g to 4g.

I think its a cute little curio where you can run the GPS but then how useful is that unless you got an office window seat because its defeated by a roof over your head.

Take out the card or ignore it. There are guys here who seem to think that these cards contribute to lower battery life but I doubt its all that significant.

Cheers Tony, great reply, makes a lot of sense. I guess I never thought about the fact that without a SIM it was useless. I definitely find things that argue back whether they should be off or not a little aggravating but I guess if it bugs me too much it's just gotta come out.

Thanks for the reply.

Check the BIOS. I believe there's an Enable/Disable WWAN option somewhere.
