Hello everyone,

I am a new owner of an old T410 laptop. I havent really been into laptops ever but i recently got a nice deal on a T410 and bought it as a bargain. I am not a hardcore gamer nor a power user. Just a regular person who watches youtube, surfs internet and some amateur photoshopping. I have found the T410 capable for my needs especially after i added 2 x 4gb DDR3 1333mhz ram, 120gb SSD and installed Windows 10. Please bear with my questions. I appriciate your replies and suggestions as i need them to order missing parts to make this T410 shiny again.

1- Laptop battery is dead and doesn't hold charge for more than 30mins. Which battery should i buy for best performance and price ?

2- My TP T410 didn't come with webcam. How is the webcam quality for skype ? I am asking this to know if it is really worth to order the webcam. Can you suggest me part fru number for the best available webcam module for this laptop.

3- I don't have fingerprint reader on it and i have some small cracks on the corners of the palmrest bezel. It bothers me to have something broken. Planning to buy this part as it includes new touchpad, fingerprint reader and new housing. Should i expect a surprise ?

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Deta ... 267.WdNLEH

4- I never really used Bluetooth but my T410 again misses that part as well so for the sake of doing something complete, i will order the following chip to get Bluetooth 4.0 working, i have read reports of success from other people. FRU 60Y3303

Thanks for your time for reading,
All the best from Istanbul.

Hello Droider,

As a current proud owner of T410 (32-bit Win7) [2522-RE3]:

1. Laptop battery you can use generic replacements which is slightly cheaper, but I've used one and it did not last as long as OEM Lenovo batteries... some may think generic is worth it, but for myself, I'll buy Lenovo battery which lasts longer in my actual experience...

2. T410 OEM webcam is 2.0 MB Web Cam, I've used it for Skype sessions, it was quite low resolution but suffice for lower quality video...
A more recent 3rd party webcam may provide better resolution for the price (OEM equipment is expensive).

3. Fingerprint reader on my T410 was never used. But fingerprint reader quality is very good, and never any cracks around palmrest bezel even with the fingerprint reader on it.

4. Bluetooth 2.1 Enhanced Data Rate works well on my T410, if only for my wireless mouse. This was the OEM Bluetooth for T410.
Not sure about your reference for Bluetooth 4.0 for T410, you may have driver issues if you simply use T410 Product Recovery discs.

As a proud current owner of T410 with the last 16:10 screen resolution (better vertical height), hope you will enjoy your machine!

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. I think i will not order the housing nor the fingerprint or webcam parts or bluetooth it would be a waste. I will buy a bt usb dongle and webcam if needed. What is urgent is a new genuine battery. I have found the following ebay item looking like the best option instead of generic replacements or used genuine batteries.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141965453406

I contacted the seller but didn't get a reply yet. What do you think ?

If that were the real deal, then why have they scrambled the Lenovo label (top left) on that battery picture?
I think it's yet another Chinese knock-off / rip-off ...

It may be an "Original 55+" battery (from the original knock-off factory) but it is apparently not a "Genuine" battery, it is only for Genuine T410 laptops.

Hi again everyone,

Thanks for your support. I calculated the total costs of everything palmrest, bluetooth, webcam, fingerprint reader and new battery, it is about 100$ excluding shipping costs. I was checking the prices for T420 used in mint condition with good lasting batteries. I can get one mint T420 if i add 150$ on top. I think i am going to trade this T410 instead of investing on it and buy a T420 instead. Looks to be wiser choice, right ?

The T420 will be a better choice over the T410. Build quality and construction is higher, and you have the option of doing a FHD IPS display mod. Performance will be much better and you get SATA III speeds.

The maximum resolution the T410 came with is 1440x900. On the T420 it's 1600x900. Even though the display is slightly shorter and more wide, you don't loose any vertical pixels and you gain horizontal pixels.

Hi again everyone,

I have some news. I went to the store today and checked T420, it was in good condition. I asked for other options and was showed HP Elitebook 8470P. I have put both devices side by side and 8470P display looked much better than T420. The price difference between the elitebook and thinkpad was about 35$ more, it was no brainer to go for it as it equips 3rd gen i5 cpu and HD4000 graphics, sata 3, aluminum case, wwan module, so i went for it. I would like to thank everyone here who answered my questions.

All the best !

that is great news but you wont own a thinkpad for now.
i am also thinking of going to a new laptop as the Graphics is very weak and isnt all the best.
i am thinking of getting a Dell E6320 as it comes with a i3 or i5 and i7 i might just get the i3 model throw in a i7 and use my 8gigs of ram for it and it will smash my t410 i currently use for my daily driver.
they go for around £120 and is a no brainer to get one as they are so cheap and have much better graphics as it has hd3000 which can get overclocked.

all the best with your new laptop!

Thanks man,

I dont really care as long as it is an elitebook or thinkpad. I like business laptops for their reability and rich port offerings. The weak spot of T420 was the display compared to HP.
The store guy also showed me the Dell E6320, i did pass it due to its cluncky look with big and plastic bezels. It also have smaller display 13.3 inches. I installed my 8gb cl8 1333mhz ram and 120gb ssd. Fresh installed windows10. The thing flies :) I also ordered the hdd caddy on ebay, so 500gb wd black 7200rpm hdd wont be wasted for long. So far, i am very satisfied with this upgrade. Hope you get the best lappy for yourself as well. :thumbs-UP:

from the pic i saw of the E6320 it looks pretty good. i like the redish acent around the keyboard and the keyboard. the only thing i hate about it is about 1 usb port as i use 2-3 at a time 1 for my mouse 1 for my main phone and 1 for my otherphone so i can trasport files faster on my t410. i also hate about it is the screen size i thought it was a 14' as my t410 is a 14.1' which is pretty good for me.
i have 8gigs of ram on my t410 but is alot slower at 800mhz i plan to get the fatser 1066mhz ram and then get a 256gh ssd as i am only using 1 160gb hdd which has only 13gb left ;( i need to get the extra caddy for my t410 too as my dvd drive has died on me recently too which has been pain in the butt due to using disk games currnetly...

thanks aswell!! :D :D
