Been working on this T400 MB for about a year off and on, as a challenge. Never worked on a ThinkPad before. No power, turned out to be an internal board short at the back edge probably caused by battery corrosives. Couple of 0.5 amp fuses blown. Careful X-acto work and a couple jumper wires and I just got it into the BIOS menu.
There may still be a charging problem but I think I'm getting close to putting it back together.
I spent 2$ on a set of schematics from a ebay hong kong outfit which helped a lot.
Battery and fan both required for bringup, plus keyboard and ram.
Thanks to everyone who helped! Great forum!
