I know of no IPS screens of the size/shape that the T400 needs (14" 8:5).

This privacy filter for 14.1" 16:10 laptop (shown on a T410)
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/7 ... L1500_.jpg has dimensions of 11.94" x 7.49". A 13.3" WXGA 16:9 panel, meanwhile, has dimensions of 11.59" x 6.52". (source

There was an X200 mod to put a 1920x1080 FHD into the X200, it required some artistic reworking of the bezel. I imagine something similar could be done to the 14.1" 16:10 T400 lid. I'd look at a 1920x1080 IPS 13.3" panel, like from Thinkpad 13, to stick in there....

About a year ago someone asked a similar question, but for the T410:

There is an LED Innolux G141C1-L01 MVA panel (close to IPS) that has 1000:1 CR:

Unfortunately, the display mod was unsuccessful and ended up blowing a fuse, even with a 'compatible' adapter.
