I indirectly broke my SO's T510 screen (1366x768) - type 4313-CTO. She has been making noise for a year now that she wants a newer computer which to suite her is probably my only option. Leaving the T510 for me. I would prefer a screen with more resolution. What lcd screens can I install into this computer and expect to work? If I move up do other parts need to be replaced as well? I do have a W500 type 4062-?FU. I cannot read the ? position on the label as there is a big scratch at that point. The W500 was given to me. It worked but the memory and hard drive were removed. Most of plastic bezels are broken but perhaps the LCD can be swapped?

T510 needs 15.6" 16:9 screens in these resolutions: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd003320#vid
Just replace the LCD itself, no further parts needed.
The W500 has 15.4" 16x10 screens, which don't fit in a T510/W510.

So can I upgrade the standard WXGA screen (1366x768? - from memory) with a 1600 x 900 lcd? I was just browsing eBay and I saw several vendors discussing ccfl back lighting vs led back lighting. I also saw a vendor starting that resolution had to be the same otherwise unit will not display correctly. That vendor warned of fuzzy or white displays. I do not want to purchase a unit if I have to return it. Thanks.

Did you read the link I gave you?
You'll need LED, not CCFL.
And take any resolution YOU like, never mind what eBay sellers say...

Yes, I did read the Lenovo link. Did I understand it - not really. To my eyes it was just a listing of different components (of which displays was a section) but there was no indication of compatibility between the various listed displays. Now that I know I require an LED display and feel more comfortable on compatibility I will go back to hunting for a display.

One more question. Many of the new units sold on eBay are aftermarket replacements. Should I avoid them in favor of a used display, or do the new replacements provide acceptable performance?

As long as they are made by LG Philips and NOT by Samsung, you should be fine.
