T410s sound disappears after a few sec after upgrade to W10
T410s sound disappears after a few sec after upgrade to W10
I decided to upgrade my T410s to windows ten. All is fine but when i try to watch or listen sth my sound suddenly disappears. When I press the volume button it comes back but after a few sec disappers again. I reinstalled the drivers, disabled exstra features in sound properties no luck. Please tell me what to do next.
In addition, the sound worked fine before the upgrade.(W7)

Try looking under the "Playback Devices" and see what devices Win10 thinks it has other than speakers? On my T500 it won't switch between Headphones and Speakers automatically, plugging in Headphones disables the Speakers until I manually go re-enable them. Now it doesn't enable the Headphones unless I manually enable them. Sound driver support for older hardware is non-existent in Win10.
I'd try disabling any other devices under Playback Devices except for Speakers, or maybe set the Default program to Speakers if it isn't already. The right solution is to stick with Win7 or Linux since they're the OSes computers of these age were designed for.
Edit: I was able to install the Win7 driver for my T500's sound device and now it works fine.

Re: T410s sound disappears after a few sec after upgrade to W10
Hello. Does anyone else had a problem like this? I've bought an used T410s running Windows 10, but I don't like it and installed Windows 7 x64. I have almost the same problem as described by topic starter. Sound disappears after about 30sec - 3min after windows boot. And it won't work again until I reboot a Thinkpad. By the way, the system "beep" when I wanna plug - unplug an AC adapter is working! Any tips for this issue?
One more thing I can say about it: if I plug in headphones, they work correct. If sound disappears (Thinkpad built-in speakers), I can plug - unplug headphones, and it will appear again... For a short time, like described above. Is it a hardware problem?
P.S. Sorry for my English, my native one is Russian.

Does the sound come back on if change the volume level - either with the volume up/down buttons, or the software controls for it in Windows? I had the same issue with a T410s, never managed to find a solution; based on reading support posts on the official Lenovo site, etc, I suspect it's hardware issue (something wrong with the cable that connects the built-in speakers), but never bothered since removing/replaced looked it involved taking the entire laptop apart. The system beep is handled in hardware, I believe, so maybe it somehow turns the sound back onlonglake wrote:Hello. Does anyone else had a problem like this? That said, I did end up replacing that T410s with another T410s and cloned the original's hard drive contents to the replacement - and the issue with the audio cutting out has never happened with the replacement (in 2 years and counting), so that's a pretty strong indication that it wasn't a software issue. Assuming that's the case, then - unless you're willing to try replacing the speakers - your best bet is probably to work around it with headphones, external speakers, USB and bluetooth audio devices, etc. That's what I ended up doing until getting the replacement.
P.S. No need to apologize for your English, it's better than many native English-speakers.

Thanks for your reply. The volume buttons or Windows volume control does not any effect. The hardware "Mute" button too.
I'm using Thinkpad for browsing / code editing / CAD / 3D, so I don't give up too much for sound problem, but when I need it, I have to use headphones. I agree with you, it looks like a hardware problem.
I'm still afraid a little to disassembly T410s to clean fan and cooling system, because I found it much more difficult than my old HP Compaq NC8430. Can you help me to find a good instructable to do it? Youtube.com found only one video, and it seems not very informative.

Thanks a lot for your help, I did it yesterday, so much screws, I believe, I won't do this again in an almost 1 year. Looks like sound circuit is in good condition, so sound disappearing problem is not solved now.RealBlackStuff wrote:Download the HMM: http://www.thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hm ... 271_07.pdf

I've installed a "Hotkey Features Integration" for Win7 from here https://support.lenovo.com/ru/ru/olddownloads/ds014985 and now, volume +/- buttons and mute button doing some effect - sound reappears again. But this problem is still not solved : (
