Utility to remap keyboard keys?

I just got a Thinkpad T530 to replace my aging T61 and am pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. Some of the newer Thinkpad keyboards and especially touchpads are relatively unsable, but not this one.

But I used to have a 3rd party Thinkpad hotkey remapper to do useful things with the Thinkvantage button and things like that, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone have any tips on that?

I'd like to:

- remap the Thinkvantage button to fire a command

- ditto the mic mute button

- and if possible remap the F8 and F9 to brighten and dim the screen (without having to press the FN key).

Thanks for any help.

Update: I figured out how to remap the Thinkvantage key by modifying a registry entry. For example, this registry file will make it so pressing the Thinkvantage button runs c:\monoff.exe, which turns off my monitor (gizmoware.net/monoff, download monoff.exe to the root of the C drive):

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001]
"File"="C:\\monoff.exe"
Works nicely.

I'd love to remap that mic mute button, but so far haven't figured out how. Anyone have any clues?

The T530 section of the forum is better suited for your question about a T530.

Its pretty similar hardware, more similar than the T520 is to the T420. Not sure why the T530 isn't lumped in here.

But I see that there is in fact a T530 forum.

Oh well, the question equally applies to every laptop in this forum title.
