Bizzare T500 boot behavior

My T500 has some kind of very odd booting behavior. The boot seems to start normally with the Levono bios and Win 10 splash screens displaying briefly. The display then goes blank followed by prolonged and constant disk activity. During this time it's unresponsive. Eventually (say, after 10 minutes) the disk activity stops and the device goes into sleep mode. When awakened [Fn(F4)] it seems ok.

Chkdsk, etc etc reveals nothing. I thought it might be a failing drive so I cloned the HD onto another drive but it does the same thing. This particular machine is a spare and hasn't been used much. It was recently upgraded to Win10 from Win7, which went fine, though I recall with win7 the boot was still very slow and there was prolonged and excessive disk activity.

I'm stumped, not sure where to go next. Ideas welcome!

My guess would be graphics driver issue. Does your T500 have switchable graphics?

Yes. Drivers all seem to be current. Any other thoughts?

You could always try burning something like Linux Mint Debian Edition to a usb drive and booting off of it in 'live' mode too see if you get different results.

It is possible that your original W7 installation wasn't working well, and an upgrade to W10 made things worse.
