T410 egpu upgrade? Which port?

#1 Post by rychuu » Tue Sep 06, 2016 2:37 am

Hello

I am planning to update my t410 with an egpu adapter.

What interface should I consider? Express card or maybe pcie?

Which version of the express card is in that platform (t410)?

And I really want to know the same about pcie.
I am using Lenovo t410 2518-4ju.

best regards

The only choice to me is the express card adapter but expect some major bottlenecking if you do so.

The mini pci is a pain as you lose your wifi card (obviously) and the whole idea of a thin ribbon cable out goes against what a laptop is in the first place.

I love the idea of a fast bus out that can be used by an external gpu but even today, its not common on many laptops so to expect a usable solution on a 5yr old unit is expecting too much.

This question has come up before and I do welcome any input from people who go down this path.

T410 is PCIe 1.0, so the ExpressCard is essentially a PCIe x1 connection, with the theoretical bandwidth of 2.5Gbps.

i am planning on doing this awell as i am not allowed a desktop,
as i have a t410 with no dedicated gpu this was my option i was going to choose, as i havent seen any mobos with the dedicated gpu in a while,
when i asked about this on youtube people said, if your mobo dose not have a dedicated gpu then you have to get the express card one not pcie, even tho with my t410 i have 2 pci-e ports and i have one free so i am not sure about using the pci-e one
i was planning on mabie a gtx 660 as that is my faviroite gpu or a gtx 650
what would you guys/girls say
ditch the egpu plann (which would save alot of money as il need a wireles keyboard, mouse, a monitor, gpu, psw, and egpu dock)
go for the mobo which has a dedicated gpu [saves alot of money]

if i go with the better mobo which version should i get
the 256mb or 512?
as i will only be playing games like Rust legacy, Minecraft and some other light weight games

You probably don't need an eGPU. That would be a huge waste of time, money and effort on your part, without even guaranteed success or improvement of any kind.
