#1 Post by TheMagicT410 » Sat Sep 24, 2016 8:28 am

hello fello members!

i have been recently trying to see if their is any thinkpad T410 nvidia quadro mobo's online but i cant seem to find any.
the reason i have been looking is becuase i want to leash new life into this amazing machine. its intergrated graphics is a no go for me anymore
i have has this laptop since christmas (2015 was a referb like new laptop)
since i have owned it, i have been having to cope with low frames on games such as minecraft, rust legacy, and some other games

if anyone has any links to where i can by one with either 256mb of vram or 512mb i would greatly appricate it,
as i plan to get this for christmas as i recently had to fork out for a new iphone.
i do know i need a new cpu heat sink and a little metal plate, but im probally going to make a "bodge" job on it so i can keep it running the gpu cool,

thanks for reading!!

I'm gonna say... "don't". I have an nvidia 410... game performance is laughable. So is my 420 but eh... I expected nothing and I was still disappointed. Nvidia Quadros on the 64bit bus is terrible.

Dont get me wrong, my 410, 420 and 420s are my favorite "end of the line Lenovos" but geez... they cant play much except maybe CS:Go.

I've heard that the GPU in the T410 and T510, the NVS 3100M, is weaker than the Radeon 3650 from the previous T500!!

Combined with the faster CPUs though, maybe it wouldn't be so bad? You'd have to play everything in lowered resolutions, as and limit yourself to games not newer than 2009 for 3D.... dedicated graphics are a good thing but not if the GPU is crap. I have an entry line Nvidia Geforce 210 in my desktop and it's terrible at all games. You know it's bad when it's advertised point is "Runs Windows Aero!"

Game debate suggests that the 3100M is no better than the 210. The 210 cannot play any of the games my T500 (somehow) does. So, I agree with TonyJZX, it's not worth it. The Intel HD graphics are good enough for 2D games, though!

i3, i5, i7, or quad core integrated?

I know the quad i7 has an unlocked memory controller so it should beat up the i7 dual core iGPU. From a core stand point the i7 dual and quad, definitely has the fastest integrated out of them all. But I wonder how much the 1600mhz ram controller makes compared to the 1333 in the dual core.

I would gladly give up HT if my T420s could safely go to a quad core, but I'm afraid of destroying the board to change the CPU.

You can't change the cpu on a T420s, it can be changed on T420 (without 's'), and it work fine in T420.

the difference between i3, i5, i7 is not huge, (unless you run a game that relies more on cpu cores)

see 'graphics clock rate' in the table of 'Mobile platform'.

going from ram 1333 to 1600 does make a difference.

well thats not good news atall.
when i did some "rough" total pice it was around £50 $64.84
i am not sure on what i am going to do.
i know all the games i play are not new games, and can run at decent settings "depending on game" the news game i have is rust legacy, which was made in 2013 and is very undermanding i can play it with about 16-24 fps on all low 1024 x 768.
Rust legacy, and minecraft are the only games i play most. with minecraft i can play that on 6-4 chunk raidus with not a big deal of lag
so i asume it should be fine, i have seens vids on youtube of someone using the Quadro card for minecraft paired with a i5 520m or i7 640m reaching over 200 fps on decent settings.

the Igpu is very hard to live with and i just want somthing that can be better, i wouldnt care if i get mabie 30 fps on rust legacy and mabie 70+ fps on minecraft on decent settings.
its hard for me to try and see if i can get a new laptop for christmas as i got this one less that a year ago which sucks i couldnt get anything pricy at the time.

dose anyone know of a laptop that can run rust legacy and minecraft well with decent fps. and is below £150 ($194)??
i was thinking (laughible- read on) that mabie a intel compute stick may be a good idea, comes with a quad core intel atom, 2gb ram and i think the seccond latest gen intel hd graphics.
the intel compute stick is cheap and is pretty easy to set up (il just need to buy a cheap monitor 1440x900 "same as my t410" keyboard and mouse) and il be set.

Thanks for reading

Very tough ask. You are looking for 'consumery' laptops like HP Pavillions with a 512Mb to 1Gb video card with a 128 bit bus... I do luck out sometimes and see the occasional home type laptop at the ex lease places I go to but obviously they are full of enterprise grade laptops like the 400 to 430 (I cant afford a 430). I do not buy consumer laptops as I despise 1,366 x 768 screens and the shoddy build.

I do pick up the occasional laptop no one wants... I'm a network engineer so I often get the scraps in the IT offices I work in. I got a free Asus or Acer laptop barebones which was an i5 1st gen of some sort with an ATI 5650/5740 whaever??? I think something like that. I just need to add an SSD and I beleive this sort of thing will do HD fps shooters at 30 frames which is reasonable. Rust and Minecraft are strangely high-ish burden games although they are on the lower end of perofmance.

I am a high performance PC enthusiast of sorts, I just finished up a Xeon quad core with an RX480 running to my 50" LCD but on the laptop gaming end I draw a blank.

I used to work at schools and unis and at my workplaces all the kiddies run $2,000 Clevo bricks so I'm well out of the loop there.
