T500 Resolution issue

I cobbled together a spare T500. The screen was from a T61, so I field stripped it and installed it in the T500 chassis. Used the inverter board from the T61, and the cable from the T500.
Can not get it to run in 1600 X 1080 mode to save my life. 1440 X 900 runs fine. Powerstrip says the monitor is capable of 1600 X 1200.
Suggestions? It is the Intel Graphics.

Well, 15.4"panels from a T61 were either 1280x800 (WXGA), 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) or 1920x1200 (WUXGA). Which panel do you have there?
BTW, 1440x900 (WXGA+) is the resolution for a 14.1" panel, curious that you are getting that resolution to work on a 15.4" panel. The EDID chip, which sets resolution, is on the panel, so cable, inverter nor GPU should make a difference.

1440x900 sounds about right for a 1680x1050 that is running without a proper graphics driver.
Boot a "live" Linux distro and report back.
Good luck.

Belarc is only showing PNP display, no specifics.
Still looking, will try the Live
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/monitor_info_view.html
Shows 1600 X 1080 60hz

Are you making typos or what?
Such a screen should display 1680x1050.

Is there even a 1440x900 panel in 15.4"? (I don't think any Lenovos came with that in 15.4", dunno about Dell/HP/Acer/etc.)
Even then, 1600x1080 isn't a resolution I've heard of, did you mean 1680x1050? (also, 1600x1000 would be the proper for a width of 1600 for a 16:10 ratio, but that's also not a standard LCD resolution)

There probably is, albeit not on ThinkPads. There's even a 17" 1440x900 which was an option on W70* series.

1680 X 1050
Intel pop up tells me its not optimal every time I start the machine.
When I try to change it the screen goes all wobbly, Im thinking its a driver as I have run into this before.
Its a LP154W02-TL06

I switched drivers to the older GM945 from the Intel all in one, then also loaded the monitor driver. Everything says 1680, even in the Device Manager best I can do 1440

I have a desk LCD monitor that I got for free, a Gateway FPD1975W, it's a 19" WXGA+ 1440x900 monitor.
Unless you install an OS and a proper driver, that monitor is useless for just testing functionality of a bare motherboard/CPU/RAM/keyboard combo.

OK RBS, you lost me.
Its a complete T500 (less the palm rest). So its installed in the lid of a T500. Trying to get the bloody thing at the right resolution.
