T420/T430 can use HD+ screens from Alienware M14X R2 or Lenovo X1C1
Just found this interesting post on Reddit, that you can replace the 1600X900 screens with a drop-in version as used on Alienware M14X R2.
Those seem to be glossy though.

Datasheets:
Lenovo: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/ ... -TLD2.html
Alienware: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/ ... -TLG1.html
UPDATE:
new possibility: use the (matte) screens from a Lenovo X1 Carbon 1st-Gen (X1C1), see further down.

Thanks for sharing!
This is indeed very interesting, not that I particularly like HD+ but I know some people not care much about the aspect ratio/resolution but do for the awful panel quality on these machines.

Not that enthused about 1,600 x 900 which I find kind of suckey.
Be that as it may, if I can snag a cheap 430/430s and match it to a 420 kbd and one of these Alienware screens it could be a great little project.

Another screen-option comes from a Lenovo X1-Carbon 1st Gen (a.k.a. X1C1 or X1C Gen1):

The X1 being matte is a better choice for almost everyone here over gloss.

Newbie here...looking for screen replacement myself...
but those Dell Alienware screens seem to be available in both Matte and Glossy.

The problem with Laptopscreen is, that you do NOT get an original screen, only a "compatible" one.
Read the small-print:
They don't show or tell you WHAT you will be getting.
You may get lucky, but it is all really "pot-luck".
Not worth taking the risk.
Look for the REAL and MATTE screen LP140WD2-TLG1.
Read the small-print:
Laptopscreen wrote:- New Grade A+
brand new part made by one of the above mentioned major manufacturer.
Our huge stock of laptop LCD screens have been manufactured by companies like LG Phillips, Samsung, AUO, Chi-Mei, Toshiba, Hannstar, Chunghwa, Sharp, etc.

++ 2! I emailed laptopscreen and they cannot guarantee that you will get a specific brand/manufacturer screen...they will only give you something compatible..RealBlackStuff wrote:The problem with Laptopscreen is, that you do NOT get an original screen, only a "compatible" one.

I was specifically looking for a AUOptronics screen for my T430s...so ended up getting a used pulled screen from ebay (grade A)

I'm having a lot of trouble finding the REAL and MATTE LP140WD2-TLG1. Any idea where I can get one?
