T510 UltraNav Problems and trackpoint shortcircuit issue
T510 UltraNav Problems and trackpoint shortcircuit issue
How do I get the UltraNav utility on my T510? Apparently the trackpoint and trackpad work just fine with the Windows 7 drivers. However, I want to install the UltraNac utility to deactivate my trackpoint button because of the short circuit under my keyboard causing spontaneous cursor jumps around my screen which is VERY annoying while typing online (I assume this based on my research online. It makes sense since I'm not touching my trackpad or hitting any trackpoint or trackpad buttons as I type, yet every few seconds while typing, the cursor will jump to wherever my mouse was pointed somewhere else on the screen).
I believe I currently have Win 7 "generic" trackpoint and trackpad drivers, but I want the Thinkpad driver/utility. I tried installing the UltraNav Utility and it seemed to install fine, but I don't see the UltraNav utility in my Device Manager (after clicking on Mouse or anywhere else on my T510.
I tried installing the UltraNav Win 7 64 bit ALPA driver, but it won't install. I get the "Install Failed Thinkpad UltraNav" window to pop up.
So, any help on the jumping cursor issue? I'm hoping a new keyboard isn't required, but I'm afraid it will be.
Assuming a new keyboard is required, I want to just deactivate the trackpoint buttons so the short circuits will stop. I can use my trackpad and buttons instead when I don't have my Trackball plugged in. In order to do this, I need the UltraNav utility, but after reading the above, I can't seem to get it installed.
Thanks!

Re: T510 UltraNav Problems and trackpoint shortcircuit issue
If you go to Mouse under Control Panel there should be an UltraNav tab. Although I see there are not options there to turn off the Trackpoint buttons. Maybe you need the UltraNav driver installed before you can install the Ultranav Utility.

Re: T510 UltraNav Problems and trackpoint shortcircuit issue
When I go there, there is no UltraNav tab.
I've tried uninstalling the UltraNav Utility before installing the driver, but I still get the same error.
As for the link you posted, no, I haven't installed them. I am downloading it right now. Thanks!

The link you sent me to got me the UltraNav tab and I was able to turn off the trackpoint. Thanks!
Now, let's just hope it solves the jumping cursor problem!

Ever since I turned off the trackpoint, the jumping cursor problem is gone. It's not a perfect fix, but it works (I really like the trackpoint).

Re: T510 UltraNav Problems and trackpoint shortcircuit issue
Glad that is sorted out, at least. You can also disable the Trackpoint from the BIOS level as well.
I experienced the jumping cursor issue as well when I had a W500 keyboard plugged in for testing in a T520, complete with phantom keypresses opening up every program on the desktop. It was a lovely experience.
