T400 Optical Drive release latch stuck or broken?

Seasons Greetings & Happy New Year!

Despite YouTube how-to videos skimming the subject, I'm having difficulty sliding the Optical Drive tray release latch that's to the left of the side rear USB port so I can replace it with a HD caddy. It's either stuck or broken because it just won't budge to the right. The manual is skimpy on this operation as well and I'm very afraid of applying too much force and breaking something. Is there something one is supposed to prior sliding the latch or is it supposed to be this firm or is there another way of releasing it?

You may have a screw in the bottom, preventing you from moving that slider.
