T410s RAM upgrade problem

i just bought a T410s Core i5 2.4Ghz Win7 Pro and have been doing the usual upgrades (SSD and RAM) but I just hit a snag with my ram upgrade.

The computer came with 2x2 DDR3 PC8500 sticks (with the 8 modules on the top) and I purchased a 2 x4 8 GB ram kit online and did the usual steps of replacing the RAM sticks. When I powered the computer on, there was no display at all and the computer was unresponsive. It didn't even make it to the thinkpad screen to boot into BIOS. I replaced my old sticks and the computer booted up fine. I went into BIOS to try and see if there was any default resets for memory I could use but no dice. Just tried my 2x4 sticks again but still straight to black display...

Looking for advice and direction to help me in the right direction to see if it's the RAM sticks bring faulty or whether there is some hardware/software setting that is preventing me from using the new RAM.

For reference, this is the RAM I bought:

2x4 1066 MHz NonECC 512x64 SoDimm DDR3 PC8500 - Samsung K2SD3/4G106SB

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Those are cheap, fake, non-genuine, untested knock-offs.
One look at the label says it all.
Return for a full refund and then buy some REAL Samsung RAM, such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/302195117450
Other reliable brands include Elpida/Hynix/Axiom/Micron.

Just went and picked up a Corsair 2x4 kit at Fry's here in SF. Put them in and boom, works.

Tried to get a good deal online and got burned. It really does pay to stick with the tried and true brands AND retailers.

Excellent work,

I get OEM memories from ebay. Memory makers, manufacture chips, assemble and test memory modules for OEM and rarely retail (Micron's retail, Crucial), Elpida, Hynix, Samsung and Micron. Rest you see daily are third party memory (unbranded and branded) that purchase their chips on open market from memory makers.

Cheers, thinkpadcollection
