T520 bottom palmrest differences

Hello.

I bought a T520 recently and i want to replace my upper palmrest.

But i have one problem..

My vga port area looks like this. I talking about this indent near port.

And when i'm looking about palmrests everywhere it looks like this

I cant see this indent in any palmrests...


Will it makes any problems with buying new upper palmrest?

Anyone knows why i have this indent?

Asking because i dont know if i have to change my bottom palmrest also.

You have to be more specific!
The VGA-port sits in the middle of the left side of the laptop, no indent near it!
But if you're talking about the metal-looking indent on the very left, that is the space the lid needs to turn in, when you open the lid. It looks like part of the hinge.
Lots of laptops have that, nothing to do with a palmrest.

You are comparing a T510 with a T520.
That T510 "dent" as you call it, is not part of the palmrest, but of the base.
Does NOT apply to your T520.

It's possible that Lenovo itself mixed different variants of bottom cases between T510 and T520. Either during manufacturing or warranty replacement. Parts that are interchangeable between consecutive serious are frequently mixed/swapped.

Yes it will.
T510, W510, T520, W520, T530 and W530 can all use the same screens.

I don't even remember if the screw holes line up on the base for the x20s and x10s like they do on the palmrest for the x30s and x20s. You could take it apart and look at the FRU tag on the base, should be in the ultrabay slot if I remember right. Might be able to peek in if you remove keyboard and ultrabay device. However, the previous owner/technian could have pulled a smart one and switched tags using a heat gun. You should check to see if the machine type number on the base (under battery when you remove it), matches the one in the bios too.

Though, there's other ways to tell the two bases apart. There's actually a finish difference between the T520 and T510 base. The finish coat on the T510 will kind of peel after excessive exposure to heat. It's not fresh in my memory, but I think it was an epoxy spray finish that Wiston used.

Additionally, there are seven divot marks on the W510/T510 base that identify it from a W520/T520 base, due to the different production process. They look like screw hole marks that haven't been drilled. Three of them are very visible in this picture on ebay. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/0hcAAOSwa ... -l1600.jpg The T520/W520 don't have these marks.

yes to the first question. I forgot to the second question. Yes the the third question, but it's a pain to remove, even though it sits flush.

V7 is quality-wise the same as V4 but glossy instead of mate, the rest of the V's are of lower picture quality.

Quite hard to get V4/v7 in Poland... Looks ill just wait some time and first upgrade everything else.

What are the chances to repair mobo of T61p? Graphic just died and i am wondering about reparing this.

Or should i just buy a new mobo?

You can't repair the nVidia GPU on a T61p.
Get another mobo, but ONLY from a reliable source.
If you don't really need the nVidia GPU power, get a mobo with Intel integrated graphics instead.

I couldnt log into forum because when i was cleaning laptop i tear away FAN connector from motherboard and im still waiting for new one to braze it.

As first i want to say thank you to all of u guys .

I ordered all parts. T520 looks like new now.

Didnt saw on auction that palmrest is without touchpad buttons but ordered them already.

I have some more questions.
I want to upgrade wifi card, best choice is?
Best bios for T520 is? Not always the newest one is the best one so better to ask.


I have changed my thermal paste and termopads. On occt temps look very good(Didnt hit 80!)
But my fan works a little to loud, there is any option to make it work more quiet? Like speedfan for thinkpads? Is it works?

Also i have new problem(or maybe i just didnt notice earlier) that my motherboard buzzing all the time and get a little louder when im watching sites, scrolling or just doing something on laptop.
It's annoying as hell so i want to do something with this.

What could cause that problem?
There is any way to repair this or i just need to replace motherboard?


Also i have question about T61p

Can i use motherboard from T61? Will resolution of 1900x1200 will work with that mobo?
There is any big differences?

The best stock wireless for T520 is Intel Ultimate N 6300 with three antennas.

Any 15.4" Thinkpad screen will work in another 15.4" Thinkpad and the T61p's 1920 will work on a T61 board.

Neither will the 15.4" 16:10 T61 screen fit in the 15.6" 10:9 T520 lid.

I have T61p but nvidia just stoped working and i wondering if i can use T61 intel motherboard in it instead of T61p with nvidia

If the T61 Intel is also a 15.4", then yes, just swap the mobo (plus any other parts you want) into the T61p.

Here is another worthless bit of information for you.

Both the T510 and T520 use different palm rests if the Smartcard reader is ordered. There are stiffening ribs molded into the palm rest if a Smartcard reader is not ordered. These ribs are absent on models with the Smartcard reader.

I need new charger, preffer the biggest one. Which one should i choose?

If it's sign that mobo is slowly dying im ok with replacing it.
