(first few posts before i bought it.. see below for installation problems)


I need some help to take the best of those two T520.
Both T520 are for sale here, price is about same.. amount of memory same, both have SSD also.

but which one is best choice?

4243-5GG or 4243-W8F

I could not find detailed specs on Lenovo website as the IBM site had in the past.

Click on the 'MTM' link at the top of the page, and you can get the specs of each of the machines.

4243-5GG : i7-2630M(2.0GHz) quad-core

4243-W8F : i7-2620M(2.7GHz) dual-core

I think the quad-core will be best choice right?

Looking at this comparison: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-2 ... e-i7-2620M I would prefer the 4243-5GG with i7-2620M.
It uses less power, runs less hot and will have better battery-life.
It also performs better on most benchmarks.
YMMV.

Thanks RBS! Bought a great Thinkpad for fair price.
It only had a unofficial Windows 10 install.

So put in my official Windows7-64bit DVD, removed and formatted drive and installed it.
So far so good. Only no drivers installed so no internet.

Got a driver for LAN from Lenovo website, installed and works. Rebooted and works.

Then the problems begins.. windows update is installing few uodates and after reboor it wont start anymore. Blue screen after windows logo. After that it only runs in circles : choose for repair, windows cant repair it, reboot and same screen.
Seems like the first few windows updates let the Thinkpad crash.

Finally put the DVD back in and reinstalled W7 again.

What goes wrong here?

I suggest you go to our W7 forum and read there about the well-known problems with W7-updates and how to solve them.

Do you have an official lenovo recovery dvd?
What version is bios? Read uefi fix

What BSOD error?
Check the uefi bios settings
Disable in bios nvidia gpu (if possible)
Install drivers from the drivers link at the top of the page or from the lenovo site, and only after that look for the microsoft update.

No dont have a recovery disk or any other Lenovo disk.
The BSOD was ´Bad Driver´ that came with the automatic Windows Update. Dont know what kind.

My last try worked perfect : Installed (again) the bare W7. Downloaded Framework and Thinkvantage on my T61p and put it on USB stick, installed them and put a LAN cable in. After Thinkvantage was launched it took about a minute before he passed the black square startscreen. Then LAN came up and it installed all drivers and the W7 updates without any problem.
