T520 PCI Serial Port

#1 Post by alanchippy » Thu Apr 20, 2017 3:46 am

Hi
I am a Newbie here. I just bought a T520 Type 4243-RT7 refurbished for my local Villager Hall charity. It came with Win 10 Pro and of course it was updated after I received it to the latest Creator's Update. Everything went well with just a couple of exceptions in that there were 2 devices that did not have drivers installed. I found one easily enough but am having difficulty finding one for the last outstanding device.

This is listed as "PCI Serial Port".

I have been told that this could be part of the Intel(R) Active Management Technology by the refurbisher but he is not being very helpful. Looking at both Intel and Lenovo websites I can not find anything specific only lots of files which do not appear to be related.

Please does anyone have a link to the correct driver file or any more info that could help me locate it.

Thanks

Alan

That's indeed part of AMT.
You can ignore it, unless you need a serial port.
I usually disable AMT (and the Security chip) due to the remote spying that AMT makes possible.

The only AMT driver I could find was this one (for desktops), don't know if that works, as I don't do W10:

AFAIK T520 is not officially supported for W10.

Hi

Thanks for the quick response.

I knew that there was no physical serial port on the machine however I thought it might have been needed as an interface for one of the other ports. Anyway I will try to disable it and take your advice.

I can confirm that Win 10 Creators Update works fine on this machine with only the above exception.

Thanks again.

Hi again

Any idea where I can disable it. I have uninstalled it from device manager but of course it just comes back on a reboot.

Not every T520 (and other series) has AMT.
If it's there, check BIOS/Config/Intel (R) AMT

Hi

I was just coming back to say I had found it in the BIOS and disabled it.

Thanks a lot for all your patience and help. Much appreciated.
