T430 Heatsink upgrade

Good evening,

I have a ThinkPad T430, the one with integrated graphics, and I am thinking about upgrading its processor to an i7 quad core, but I was told I should use a heatsink with dual heatpipes for those.

I am almost sure mine came with a heatsink with a single heatpipe and doing my research I have found that the heatsink from T420 has two heatpipes (specifically the one with FRU 04W0407).

Now my question is: can I use that one?

As an update, I'm thinking about upgrade the cpu to an i7 3630QM, which seems to be 45W according to Intel Ark.

I'm waiting for either a confirmation this heatsink is suitable or if I don't need to upgrade it at all.

It won't work. You need the T430 one with the extra pipe, preferably with a delta fan (but you can buy that separately).

I see that you have modded your T430 completely and you have used a heatsink from a model with a discrete gpu on a model that doesn't have it, did you cut it somehow?

I'm guessing you don't have pictures, right?

I'm using the dGPU heatsink from the T430. In the OP you're asking about the T420 heatsink in the T430, correct? That one won't work.

Nothing. It just sits there as an extra copper pipe to absorb heat.
