Memory upgrade to 6GB T410 won't boot
Memory upgrade to 6GB T410 won't boot
I was given 4GB samsung 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S ram for free and decided to add it to my T410. Unfortunatelly it won't boot after that. Is it possible that my ram i newer and my device won't menage to work with my T410?

I find that the "L", low power, memory modules will not work on some older machines. You could also have gotten a bad memory module too.

Not to mention that most Lenovo laptops seem to prefer 2Rx8 modules.
(where 1Rx8 = one-sided chip-mounting and R2x8 = both sides)

Not to mention that i recommend that ram is dualed up by capacity. Not a big deal if different sizes are used but i always recommend doing using 2 same sized sricks. Also allows it to be faster in dual channel mode.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: Memory upgrade to 6GB T410 won't boot
Ranks have *nothing* to do with number of chips. Ranks is number of "banks" of a group of memory space as viewed from processor's. 1Rx8 is one rank while other 2Rx8 are two ranks. I usually find that notebooks works with 1Rx16 and 2Rx8.
By the way, PC3L is 1.35V not low power. PC3 is 1.5V supply, this support begun with Haswell and fewer chips support like 8 chips per module for 8GB modules. What you need is a PC3-10600 4GB 16 chips module, get a matched set to bring up to 8GB on your T410. That's max capacity, OEM brand label preferred. Like Elpida, Samsung, Micron/Crucial, Hynix.
Cheers, thinkpadcollection

Re: Memory upgrade to 6GB T410 won't boot
You can try this:
Method 1
Unplug, and remove battery.
Remove all RAM.
Hold down power button for four minutes.
Install new ram.
Plug in laptop, but NOT BATTERY. See if it will boot.
IF IT DOES.... Go into BIOS, check and make sure the computer sees all the RAM.
Method 2
IF IT DOES NOT..... Unplug the laptop, and keep the battery out, but leave the new RAM in.
Hold down power button for four minutes. Plug in, NO BATTERY. Turn on the computer.
IF IT WORKS.... Go light a Cigar, set back with a favorite beverage, while repeating: "I DA MAN!" Over and over again.
Method 3
IF IT DOESN"T WORK.... Try different RAM. Repeat ad nauseum.
I had to do this with my Wife's HP-15. HP says, "THIS BOARD DOES *NOT* SUPPORT MORE THAN 4GB/RAM!!!!" (In a message that sounded more like: "Or We'll find you and KILL YOU!!"). I should print this E-mail out, and hang it next to my two "Cease-and-Desist!" letters from Microsoft.
An 8gb stick of PC3 128000 would send light blinking and screen, blank faced, with the 8 gb/RAM chip in it. I used the above method, and it WORKED. She now has 8gb of PC3-128000 goodness in her touchscreen HP-15 (that has the build quality of an '84 Yugo).
One way or another, I have had good success with this. It worked on my Wife's computer the first time. My SIL has almost the exact same computer, that took me to "Method 2", and it worked. I also used "Method 2" to get a friends HP 2000 to accept 8gb/ram.

1rx8 4GB under no circumstances is compatible with Arrandale, even though 1rx8 2GB is fine. For 4GB you need 2rx8.

My experience also confirms that DDR3L will not work in T410. You need DDR3.

my experience is that you need 16 chip ddr3 sticks for those models, while 30 and later models aren't as picky
