Hard Drive Failure

#1 Post by MikalE » Wed Jun 07, 2017 8:48 am

I had just installed some selected Windows 7 updates and left the computer unattended. It restarted and couldn't find the drive with the OS. I didn't see the error until the next day- This is a T510 i5 that I don't use much, but do for internet and music listening when I am working in my home office.

Luckily I had a spare 500GB 7200 drive from my T520 that wasn't doing anything. I reinstalled the Windows 7 Pro OS and restored the drive from several backups I have.

Here is a bit of interesting information.

The restore I performed from a backup was from late last year. I don't use this system much and rarely add anything to it to have to worry about constant backups.

I thought i would try to get the T510 to pair with the JBL Flip 4 that I have been trying to pair with my T520.

The T510 automatically installed the JBL drivers, set up the Bluetooth operation and connected on the first try.

The audio didn't sound very good, so I closed iTunes and disconnected. I reconnected and opened iTunes and it connected and played normally. I don't know what differences there are between the two systems except the T520 now has BT4.0 while the T510 is still on BT3.0. I would think a newer BT card would not keep it from connecting on the T520, but who knows.

The T510 has all updates installed up to late November of last year until the hard drive failed the other day right after another Windows update. That update and any future updates will not be performed.

The Flip 4 again connected with a bit of manipulation.

I had to delete the Flip 4 and install it again. Open and close iTunes a couple of times, but it did eventually connect and stay connected.

I have not tried again on the T520.

What idiot at Lenovo or Microsoft didn't think stereo audio over Bluetooth was an important feature?

I thought I saw a tall brick wall over there>>>>>>>> :banghead:

If you're just browsing the internet and listening to music, why not install linux on it?
