Lenovo Solution Center alternatives please?

#1 Post by jimwg » Mon Jun 19, 2017 3:57 pm

Greetings!

The latest Lenovo Solution Center constantly crashes on my 32bit Windows 7 T400 Thinkpad. I have running in the background the latest AVAST and IOBIT Ultimate 10 Pro, which I really don't want the hassle of uninstalling to see whether LSC trips over them, especially if it's known today's LSC has problems with older Thinkpads and Win7 in general. I'd happily go for a LSC alternative because the only thing I really like in LSC is it's super in-depth hardware diagnostics which seems peerless to anything out there I know of and I like the reassurance of a hardware heads--up of anything going wrong.

If there are any solutions to my LSC crashing problem or if there's an alternative please alert me!

Thank you,

Jim in NYC

Ergh.....
"If there are any solutions to my LSC crashing problem"
I've been waiting nearly twenty years to finally have a reason to say "Buy a DELL." (G)

No really, that will not make your life any better, it will just stop LSC from being an issue. I resigned myself to Lenono software simply being an unsupported dead end now, and stopped using it. Kinda like Wordstar 3.3, it is time to move on.

Uninstall that Lenovo crapware, and you're grand!
Who needs LSC anyway?

Not even close. Bloatware, and I'm being kind here.

Let's see what can possibly go wrong on a T400, shall we?

CPU - highly unlikely. Most CPUs outlive the systems that they were shipped with by a decade.

GPU - possible on models with switchable graphics, but then you have to swap the board anyway.

Hard drive/SSD - plenty of free software that will verify the existence of bad blocks/failing sectors etc. with HD Tune being my personal favourite, but there are many other options.

RAM - possible, but Memtest 86 will discover any problems in that area.

I hope that you're getting the picture...

Yeah, we also uninstall Lenovo Solution Center.

If we remember correctly, Lenovo Solution also require Adobe Air, which we uninstall also (as we have no other programs that need Adobe Air).
Daily Driver: (X1E3) X1 Extreme 3rd Gen | mobile broadband (WWAN)
Current Thinkpads: X1E3 | X1E1 | X1C10 | X1C9 | X1C4 | X1C3 | X230
Retired Thinkpads: X250 | T410 | T42 | 560 (circa 1996)
