T500 Thinks There's a Second Battery

#1 Post by ArtShapiro » Tue Aug 22, 2017 8:17 pm

The yellow "charging" light on my T500 (Win10 x64) has been flashing for a few months with all my batteries, all of which change properly and exhibit no indication of any problem and which work without the yellow light on my W500 (also Win10 x64.)

The weird thing is that the power icon in the tray brings up a box that says that battery 1 is at 0% and not charging, whereas battery 2 is at the usual 97% and, as expected, not charging.

Does anyone have an idea how I can tell Windows that there's only one battery and that the reading for battery 1 is bogus???

And I have no idea if the power display is Lenovo's or Windows'.

Im wondering if a piece of conductive sometging or other is on the Ultrabay battery terminals and its causing it to think the Ultrabay vattery is installed. Try Taking a look inside the ultrabay slot.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Interesting (and fast!) suggestion. Didn't see anything, but I pushed the slot open and blew it out with my air compressor. No improvement. But thanks for the idea.

Maybe clean the dock slot?

Does it misbehave in other operating systems?

Not the deck slot - see previous reply. It's a dual-boot machine, and the behavior is similar on the 8.1 partition, aside from the bogus battery being #2 rather than #1.

As the light flashes even after power down, unless i temporarily disconnect AC and pull the battery, this must mean it's a Thinkpad issue and not a Windows issue. Upon reconnecting power, the light doesn't flash until the next bootup.

Sounds like a planar issue, as in charging circuit going haywire. If it doesn't really bother you, leave it as is. Otherwise you're looking at a board swap.
