T520 memory question
T520 memory question
Picked up a tidy i5 2520M T520 this week, unfortunately it only has 4Mb onboard and I rather fancy 16.
A local dealer has Corsair Vengeance PC3-15000 @ 1866MHz SO-DIMMs in stock, are they compatible with the T520?

Re: T520 memory question
T520 supposedly supports DDR3-1333/1600/1866 SODIMMs, so yes, they would most likely work.
Take your laptop under your arm, go there and try.
T520 has 2 RAM slots and can take up to 2x8GB RAM.
2x4GB is usually more than enough.
(To use 4GB or more, you also need a 64-bit OS.)

Re: T520 memory question
Thanks Black Stuff. Inclined to give it a try as the price is rather attractive.

Re: T520 memory question
If the T520 is like the T420 and X220 as it is in most other ways, then the BIOS limits the RAM to only working at 1333MHz. 1866MHz memory will still work, but at the slower speed.
I don't even know under what conditions the difference between 1333 and 1866 would be noticeable in practice, but if it's something you're concerned about, custom BIOSes often unlock the RAM speed (as well as removing whitelist limitations on what wifi, etc cards you can use).

Re: T520 memory question
Make sure the modules are 16 chips per module (2Rx8) and are 1.5V only for T520.
