i have got a problem with my T420 running Windows 10.
I do no know when it started but now, I need several time restart / shut down the machine to get the sound working.
Till now it worked fine without any problems. After I realized the sound is not working tried to uninstall latest Win10 updates and patches. But no luck.
Shut down the T420, took the battery out, press the power for more then 20 seconds, no luck.
When it does not work:
The speaker in taskbar has a red cross and the device manager has no info about audio/speakers.
Tried to reinstall the drivers but it says no audio device found.
When it does work:
Everything works fine.
I tried to reinstall the drivers when it worked. After a restart it stopped working.
TP's (T400, T61, T60) works fine, till now no problem detected .
What else can i try?
Did the problem start after installing Windows 10? or is it a problem which has just started. From the information you have given it sounds like a hardware failure which is causing the intermittent audio problems

Otherwise a new motherboard needed or try either one of memory modules.
