Problem with T420 Hinges

#1 Post by Nigellus » Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:42 am

So my hinges completely gave out after several months of being loose. They won't hold the lid at all anymore. So, me being me (a person who has assembled and disassembled his 600E several times), decided to disassemble my T420 and see if I can tighten the hinges.

Well, if there is a way, I can't find it. And the internet (which I should have checked before I started this project) said I need to just buy new hinges because there's no way to tighten them.

So, I have two questions. First, IS there a way to tighten a loose T420 hinge?

And Second...

So, when I put my machine back together, even though I'm reasonably sure I didn't miss any of the steps, I had three screws left over. One is the standard M2 x 3 mm size. The other two are 4 mm long and the heads are almost 4 mm wide. They also appear to have blue substance in the threading. Anyone know what I might have missed? As you can see, aside from the hinges, my machine is working fine (I'm typing on it right now).

T420 hinges are non-adjustable, replace them.
As for the screws, check in the HMM what you all dis- and re-assembled.
You'll have to do it again when your new hinges arrive.
Next time make a quick drawing with screwholes of the area you remove screws from, then tape the screws onto the drawing, so you know where to return them to.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I did look through the manual to see if I could identify the two larger screws, but I came up with nothing. I guess they're just the standard 4 mm screws described, but who knows where they came from.

Yeah, that's the plan. 8)

I'm going to have containers and labels for screws and parts referencing each step. This mystery will be solved.
