T420 battery replacement

#1 Post by Garth » Mon Mar 26, 2018 4:11 pm

I want to replace my T420 6-cell battery with a new one but there seem to be several types of genuine Lenovo batteries available with different part numbers, each supposed to fit a T420. Is there any different between these different types (apart from the obvious 6-cell and 9-cell variations)? Does a battery with a higher part number denote an improved version? I have a type 4236-PGG T420.

The originals were the 55+ (6 cell) and 55++. These will work in the T410/420 and T/W510/520. The later model, the 70+ and 70++ have a security chip which allows them to be used in the T430, T/W530. The 55+/++ doesn't work in the later model, the 70+/++ works in the earlier model.

No, the battery number has nothing to do with its quality or revision. It is an arbitrary number specific to a machine lineup. Due note, the + or ++ on the end of a number signifies the size.
On a T61, the 88 battery was 4 cells, the 88+ was 6 cells, and the 88++ was 9 cells.

*: The T61's battery wasn't 88, I'm just using it for an example.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
