Ultrabay stubs and catches
Ultrabay stubs and catches
I've been looking all over for some replacement stubs and catches for an Ultrabay III. You can see these on the back and side of an Ultrabay III device. On optical drives, these always are screwed on. Does anyone here know what they're really called so I can order some from Lenovo? Or perhaps point me to where I can get some? Searching for "Ultrabay III" is association with "latch", "catch", "hook", and so on gives me lots of hits on replacing the latch inside the laptop, but nothing on these things that screw to the side of the device. Maybe you have some of them lying around doing nothing?

Re: Ultrabay stubs and catches
If you have one, can you take a picture and post the link to it here?
Hard to understand what you are talking about.
If it's the metal eyelet that stops the ultrabay unit from falling out, you can make those yourself from e.g. a tin can.
If it's the black plastic blob, no idea what that does, and if it's even needed.

I think this is the parts Frotz is talking about

Side catch: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zqykl5c7pcmm8 ... 7.jpg?dl=0
If so, I am not sure if lenovo sells these separately from a drive, they aren't listed in the HMM. Even if they did, I would think it is cheaper to just pick up a used cd/dvd drive with them already on, and just take them off. I think I say a few for under $10 on ebay.

Re: Ultrabay stubs and catches
The back stub is to prevent the drive from going in a T4x machine. Snap it and you now have T4x compatibility.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: Ultrabay stubs and catches
Please stop spreading misinformation. (I really wonder how you are going to get "T4x compatibility" on a SATA optical drive). Not to mention the absolute lack of relevance, since the OP asked how to get the stubs, not what they are for.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 11:17 pmThe back stub is to prevent the drive from going in a T4x machine. Alternative to buying: if you're talking about the parts as shown above by turomini, find someone with a 3D printer, to copy them from an existing drive.
