Under the description of the display it states "100% COMPATIBLE" which is a hint that this is not actually a real B140HAN01.3 and thus, ironically, not compatible.
Most of the listings of this model are fake and will send you alternative panels that are "100% COMPATIBLE" it may take you many tries to find a true one.
Best of luck!

I have a Lenovo T420. Since my original screen crashed, I'm looking to buy a new one. I found on this topic that I can upgrade with the fhd + screen and board listed from the first post for T420. Is there some secure link to buy on ebay, aliexpress ... from China or Europe, with an affordable price?

I have a question.

Has anyone tried using this (or any other) FHD Upgrade Kit while using a 45W CPU?

I'm running my T430 with a 3740QM and using a 170w charger (because the original one didn't work (system on, not charging OR system off, charging)) for 2 years now ( other specs: NVS 5400M, 250gb sdd, kept the chiclet kb but got a backlid one, did eGPU for years) and runs smooth and stable as it was intended.

A better screen is the next step.

Having a iGPU, a power hungry CPU and now a FHD kit that will add up to the total power consumption. Will the system as a whole handle it?
Can it be a source for flickering? Even tho the past flickering issues seems to be over (for other users ofc, i never tried it before)

btw battery life is not a problem for me.

Have a good day.

Heya,
I'm getting tired of trying this update myself. I've tried two different adapter boards (from the same manufacturer) with a screen I was reasonably confident was genuine but only got the backlight working. Now I have a different display (eBay item 264060682333 ) that I'm all but 100% sure is an OEM one, with a third adapter cable from another manufacturer but still have the same issue with only the backlight coming on.

Is there something I'm missing?

HI, friend
Please use your original panel to test whether the mainboard is working .If it is still working .
For this case ,there is two reason.
1) The display is not the panel that in the panel number list of our description .Or it is the genuine product of the panel's model number, the Label is changed by someone.
2) Not cutting down the power supply and drains the power completely from the mainboard , and then burnt out the controller board . This is important ,Before you Installing the controller kit , pull the power, pull the battery, and then hold the power switch for a few seconds. This drains the power completely from the board . if you have stuff "sort of powered" or "fully powered" while doing this swap, you'll probably fry your inverter fuse, which is a pain to replace or burnt out the controller board kit .

Hi.... Friend...

The original display does work. I'm reasonably confident I've tried two original screens. I think maybe the adapters only work on specific hardware revisions of the OEM screen. I've tried HW1A and HW4A.

hi,again.
I am sorry to hear that .
We test a lot of original B140HAN01.3 And B140HAN01.2, B140HAN01.1. All of them work well . Could you please tell me your Ebay ID? Or you can contact with us in the Ebay about this case, so that we can solve the problem with you as soon as we can .
Looking forwards to get your reply .
Best regards!

Hi, I can confirm that a B140HAN02.0 also works with this kit. No flickering, no problems. Brightness controls also work.
One thing to be aware of is sometimes the seating of the motherboard LVDS plug can be the reason for no image or a corrupted image. I had to reseat it 3 times to get it working.
Also the angle of the cable from the LVDS motherboard plug was sensitve to the angle it was installed, it caused issues if bent too sharply.
Perhaps if the cable can be pointing to the right when installed in the motherboard it might help when the converter board is placed on top of the ram slot.
This is installed in a T430 with a i7 3720qm.

Could you let us know the model ( from the label on the back) of the screen you are trying to use?
Do you have access to another laptop that has a native 30 pin ePD connection (most modern laptops), you can check it works and also use hardware info and look at the display information.
Also I am not sure if you should use a 3rd party cable as the pin configuration may be different on the adapter end.

I was considering this upgrade on my T430 but there seems to be a lot of problems with it lol. Seems like very few non-s models will work and those that work might have a chance of failing in a few months. Am I assuming correctly?

Data on success/failure seems to only be anecdotal so far? There are lots of posts on the subreddit showcasing successful FHD upgrades on T420 and T430. As that's all there's to go on I'll share my experiences with these kits:

T430 running the initial e-qstore FHD kit daily since mid-2018 to now, no flaws with the adapter, but the B140HAN01.1 has developed some defects.

T420 ran an unknown secondhand kit, no flaws with the adapter, but the LCD developed internal defects and it is currently in disuse.

T430s ran the RMSMajestic WQHD kit, no flaws with the adapter, stopped being used in October 2018.

T420 running the e-qstore WQHD kit daily since October 2018, no flaws with the adapter.

My experience so far:

- T430 with JaVie's kit and AUO panel (forgot which version). Developed the flicker issues after around 3 months
- Same T430 as above with EvanJoo adapter on the back of the panel. Developed the flicker issues after few weeks
(I tried the same adapter under the KB. Still flickers)
- T420 with JaVie's kit and AUO panel (again, forgot which version). Developed the flicker issues after few months
- #2 T420 with JaVie's kit and AUO panel (again, forgot which version). Still working fine

1x T430s and 2x T420s with JaVie's kit and AUO panels. No flicker issues at all
1x T430s with JaVie's QHD. No flicker issues at all

Thank you, for sharing your personal experience, though, it's not very optimistic, seems like it's still 50/50 chance of experiencing a malfunction after few months :(

Flickering seems to depend on the individual laptop, affecting T420 and T430 models, not placement but sometimes the adapter. Some laptops never flickered even with the original prototypes. Other laptops flickered with the original prototypes but did not flicker with the new adapters. Other laptops flicker with old adapters and the new adapters.

Placement in the lid vs. above the fan, above the RAM only possibly affects pressure on the back of the LCD and backlight bleed.

I haven't posted here in a long time. I just wanted to share my experience with the IPS upgrade on my T420s.

I bought the controller from seller "moe-tech" on Ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-Controller ... 3210261673

A used B140HAN01.1 was the screen I chose. So far I have no flicker while on battery or charging. The screen is very bright and brightness adjust works well.

I also upgraded my motherboard at the same time to an i7-2640M and installed a new matching heating and fan.

It seems some have been having trouble with the upgrade, hopefully this one continues to work properly. I didn't intend to upgrade the screen or processor when I got my t420s a year ago. The screen it came with was just so horrible I couldn't take it anymore and pulled the trigger. I can't believe how great it looks, best screen I have ever used, by far!

Anyone here tried the qstore kit with Innolux : N140HCA-EAC screen? According to the kit description on ebay, this should be a fully supported panel by the kit and this screen seems to be more common here in Europe. Anyone here having any experience with this combination? Flickering, screen quality, etc? Thanks a bunch.

For those that have upgraded their T420 display, are the LCD controllers meant to be taped behind the screen?

The current kit from eqstore on eBay uses long cables so you can sit the adapter board over the upper RAM slot.

Did you use this specific kit on your own Thinkpad? If so, what IPS display did you end up going with?

I installed the e-qstore kit & a B140HAN01.3 panel into my T420 around a year ago - the kit is installed under the keyboard. Everything worked initially but developed a problem after some time. I've not had any flickering but certain screen events cause the panel to switch off completely. By closing & reopening the lid the panel will power on again, however if the 'trigger' is still present on screen it will shut off again. I first noticed it when browsing, certain web pages would cause it when they loaded. I'm able to reproduce the fault using Lenovo Diagnostics Display tests, the tests that will cause the panel to switch off are the Reg, Grren & Blue Purity Tests. I did try changing the resolution to 1600*900 & that solved the problem for a while, but it then started to happen at that resolution also. Any ideas on this or should I accept the cause is lost & reinstall the original panel? Cheers

I have heard the B140HAN01.2 to work no problem on other posts.

Thanks but the B140HAN01.3 is also compatible with the kit, it's the panel recommended by the kit supplier.

OK so I thought I should try the mod with the controller board positioned behind the screen, rather than under the keyboard (on top of the RAM). So far so good, the RGB colour purity tests that (amongst other screen events) previously caused the panel to shut off now don't. Will see how it goes & report back, as we know problems can develop down the road

This is where I ended up placing the module. Someone on reddit did say overtime it created permanent pressure marks. He advised I should movie it to where the dGPU is on the motherboard.

I might give that a shot.
